In the event of a chain split on august 1 if you have bitcoins on bittrex ,you will not lose your bitcoins and will get both bitcoin segwit and bitcoin cash...an official statement from bittrex is here....

Hello. Aren't you jumping the gun a bit here? This is 'if' there is an effective split, BCC could die on the vine, segwit2x has already been activated. To say Bittrex is supporting Bitcoin Cash is misleading making one think they are all up in support of it and they are not. They simply said if it happens they will try to preserve customer funds.
there will be a split ..there is no if now ...they didn't say "try" they said "ensure"...
Yes I know the split is coming but it may not have any traction and may die off as fast as it came on. I read 'reasonable steps to ensure...' if the new coin is not excepted by 95% of the miners it would hardly be 'reasonable' to support it so it's all wait and see.
Well, why not at least receive free coins?
Yes, everyone wants their free coin and are going back to the nest pulling bitcoin out of the other alt's so they can get the free coin. I think they are all in for a rude awakening because this coin demands the removal of segwit to use it and is going to die on the vine, it will not be mined by over 95% of miners and because it demands removal of segwit it could screw up your whole bitcoin set up. Meanwhile the rest of the alt coins are at bargain basement prices. Once people realize this BCC is big bullshit the other alt's should pick up again and we'll be back to normal with crypto's to the moon. Peace.

Regardless, in the off chance both do survive (as was the case with ETC & ETH), people should make sure any BTC they are holding is on an exchange or in a wallet that allows them to benefit from the fork.
