Others you might consider outside the 3 are Ripple, Monero and BitConnect...
Right now Bitcoin is still king, but Ethereum will become #1 in a short order. This means the potential here is huge..
Ethereum is growing exponentially, while Bitcoin has reached its maximum capacity for now. Its still growing though but eventually it will sow down. As the adoption of Ethereum continues to grow, its utility and value will grow exponentially..
Buy as many coins you want with your spare money of course and keep it there.. You could hit it big in a year's time..
You can also do investments with the coins to make more money with it.. 
Bitcoin is far from topping out. Itll bounce around a little like always for short amounts of time but long term itll be solid for years to come. It acts as a backbone providing a means of currency if nothing else to buy other coins with until other platforms make it more real world usable. Plus the media drives newcomers that flock to it because its a brand name basically. I agree ether also has a solid future ahead, paving the way with new developments. Ripple is suspect at best, possibly at the end of the year itll show us more but no way ill trust it with large investments for now. Lite coin is old faithful, it has its place makeing it safe. The rest are dictated by their developers and how well they perform. There are a few others you might take a peek at as well, two main ones being iota, and omg. Both show very serious long term potential. Just my two cents.
