Crypto-currencies become unicorns
In mid-February 2017, I was still unsure as to whether further crypto-currencies would be established – besides Bitcoin. In the meantime, the crypto-currency world has changed a lot. Today, the total market cap exceeded 100 billion USD.
In addition to Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), NEM (XEM), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Litecoin (LTC), Dash (DASH) and IOTA (MIOTA) have grown to unicorns. All have a market capitalization of more than one billion USD, Ethereum even more than 20 billion USD and Ripple more than 10 billion USD.
An end to the growth is currently not foreseen. - Clearly, the world market share of crypto-currencies is also only a very small fraction of the total world currency market. And consequently, further high growth rates are to be expected, albeit with equally high volatility.
Interestingly, the dominance of Bitcoin is continuously decreasing.
The next few months will be exciting. We expect the birth of other crypto-currency unicorns.
