If given a chance can robots be great companions? Maybe Kambria can fill us in.
If you've ever watched the movie: Terminator then you can understand why we're all afraid of the possibility of a killer robot invasion, it's scary but in all fairness, robots receive too much hate, and a lot of it is thanks to the media. Let's be honest how many times have you seen a headline like this "Robots are coming for your jobs!" or something similar. Countless times, right? but trust me this couldn't be further from the truth. In this blog post, we're going to talk about an amazing blockchain based open source platform called Kambria, that's basically an open repository project made up of a high-level behavior library and modular hardware and software components that will be used to rapidly develop and deploy robotic technologies. Hopefully by the end thanks to Kambria you’re going to leave with a whole new perspective on robots.
It's a fact society is gravitating into an era where extensive automation will be the order the day, an era where capitalism and industrial economies just won't need as many workers. We saw it during the 1800s when diesel powered automobiles ushered out horses and cartridges, reducing the need for blacksmiths and stable hands. We've also seen it now, computers have been increasingly and efficiently performing tasks that only humans could do.
But what does this mean for humans? Should we just die? ... No, we should adapt.

Robots as friends.
Automated arms can be found on numerous mechanical production systems, from assembling autos to creating autonomy within factory plants to food preparation. As computers have advanced so has the power to program. As artificial intelligence takes off and becomes smarter so have its applications in providing robots with a more human-like and complex reasoning capacity.
Kambria wants to combine blockchain technology with robotics to help advance the robotics cause but can it tackle the factors affecting the pace at which robots are adopted or will they be a passing storm.

Tackling Issue
1: Technical feasibility.
Technological advances require fundamental logical research, yet all together for these advances to be adopted, they require a depth of engineering solutions both take a lot of time to develop. It could be because of high costs or issues with design but there i usually a huge lag between the period when a technology is illustrated, and the period when a final prototype is developed using that technology. The lag time between conception and actual prototype took 11 years for the wright brothers. This means the first commercial flight was pioneered a decade before it actually took off. That's too long.
Solution: By rapidly prototyping and designing entire robots using standard components, OhmniLabs, the company where Kambria founders worked, were focused on increasing iteration speed as well as reducing lag time. This concept enabled them to come up with entire robots in 'zero' time going to become a leading player in the consumer robotics industry. After working at Ohmnilabs, kambria's founders have brought forward that same line of productivity and implemented it on the blockchain. By building an ecosystem where a community can mutually work together under smart contracts to develop unique applications at a lower costs and faster times, this model is a winner.

Dealing with regulatory and social barriers.

Robots do have security and risk issues. For example, one mishap could trigger stringent controls. Artificially intelligent robots used in the military or on autonomous vehicles may have to make judgments that harm people, creating moral controversy. Privacy is also a potential security issue, particularly for areas where personal data is sensitive like in health care. From a social point of view, as well, computerization should conquer a few hindrances. On the off chance that numerous laborers lose employments and can't discover new ones, the social and political weights against mechanization could wind up critical. People might not have any desire to receive new advances or work with automation because they might fear they would lose their jobs if they did.
Solution: Kambria believes very much in keeping their core platform open and transparent that's why they built on blockchain. Even implementing a decentralized user participation mechanism called KambariaVote that will not only be used to gather user feedback to improve upon the platform, but it will also be used incentivize the Kambria community members to partake in flagging potentially fraudulent activities from free riders and violators on the platform before any legal action is taken. Allowing community members to describe a project and even get it crowdfunded is another way Kambria hope to keep engaging with their users to hopefully break down any social barriers but because no project is fool proof. kambria's legal team is handy to always deal with any regulatory setbacks that may arise.
When ATMs came out, bank tellers knew their jobs were done for, this didn't exactly happen because although the ratio of tellers per bank fell the existence of ATMs meant bank operating costs fell and thus more branches were opened, and more tellers hired. Although the roles tellers had evolved. Kambria hopes to build inclusivity within the society by allowing robots to work in tandem with humans.

The cost of developing and ultimately deploying robots is too high.
Developing and engineering robotic technologies drowns a lot of capital. Most of the processes require a ton of physical infrastructures; tooling, labor, legal compliance documents etc. This automatically means the entire costs used to develop and ultimately deploy the prototype or final product must be recouped, this translates to extremely prices on products further frustrating adoption efforts.
These overall costs are usually significantly lower for software-based solutions, especially if it's distributed through a technology such as blockchain. The implementation of KAT, proprietary tokens developed for the kambria platform also help lower costs because all transactions are carried out on a uniform basis. All this goes into the process of reducing capital expenditures and increasing useful operating expenditures.
IMG_4066.jpg
Another way Kambria will use to maximize effort at the lowest cost is through bounties and smart contracts. The truth is experienced, and skilled engineers are expensive, Google paid $7,000,000 for one engineer during the deepmind acquisition. Most startups can't afford this but there is always power in numbers by creating small bounties ($100-$5k USD), large bounties ($100k - $500k USD) to enormous bounties ($1M + USD), members of the kambria community are incentivized to join in on the bounties and create something amazing. K1 also includes something called tranches that are basically tournament rounds that are meant to encourage healthy competition between the platform users. Kambria doesn't just stop there - users can also contribute their KAT to existing bounties to increase the size of the prize pool. So, at the end of the day, projects are completed faster and at only a fraction of the cost.
They say to determine how a successful a startup will become you need to learn more about the team running the behind the scenes.

Founders and Team

Dr. Thuc Vu - in charge of AI and Game theories
Jared Go - in charge of Robotics and Blockchain
Tingxi Tan - in charge of cloud computing and blockchain
All having worked with some of the biggest brands in the world. brands such as Google and holding years of knowledge in related and crucial topics such as game theory, blockchain development, artificial intelligence, Virtual reality and cloud computing.IMG_4077.jpg
In fact, both Vu and Go have studied at Stanford university. It's true that Stanford university produces five times as many entrepreneurs as any other school and just as many tech billionaires, could this be because of the school’s startup fostering culture? A culture that fosters and promotes a risk-taking attitude as well as encouraging a new level of comfortability and transparency between lecturers and students.
This philosophy is contagious as it works to motivate students to push to their limit academically and follow their passion. It could also be because the Stanford curriculum focuses heavily on entrepreneurship with entire classes being taught not by academics but by industry experts who are former entrepreneurs or heads of companies. In fact, according to a study, many startups at Stanford started as a class assignment, is this the case with Kambria? I can't tell you, but i can tell you is... with a startup this good and a team that skilled betting against them isn't the best idea.
IMG_4070.jpg
Don’t forget! the tech capital of the world, Silicon Valley is also right next to them, this proximity supports the previous two points. In fact startups use Stanford University students as early adopters for their ventures, definitely what the Kambria will utilize.
Join to catch up with Kambria's Beta program that's running during the third quarter of 2018 and will involve the introduction of bounty smart contracts, the opening of Kambria Vote smart contracts and much more.

Wow! cool project! good formula: robots + blockchain + artificial intelligence

yes it is @juliasto. thanks for the feedback and i just followed you so do follow me back

Robotics will play a prominent role in the future. It's almost certain that will be the case. The way the technology has such a important role in people's lives now, it's almost certain robotics will play just a large role. With Kambria and their implementation of blockchain technology, a bright future awaits no doubt.

This is very true. Robotics will shape the future in almost every aspect of our life. Mostly people are afraid that robots will take over all the human work positions but it is not true. we can both co-exist and we will need each other in this

trading competition for kambria is a proof that no users are trading to this crypto project. just being honest here.

Thank you for sharing this. Btw I also saw this trading competition made by kucoin when KAT got listed on them. https://www.kucoin.com/#/rank/KAT

as far as i know kat trading comp is already done and the rewards are being distributed check for it.

Do you have any plans to do some trading events again? Coz badly i didn't make it to top 100 :( And the event will end soon. I hope there is something like this again, I'll promise to do my best this time
