Watch The SegWit Adoption / Rejection Live
During the last two weeks I found myself writing about Bitcoin more than usual. Why would I do that? Well, like it or not, all relevant crypto currencies are tunneled through Bitcoin, meaning their value is translated in fiat via Bitcoin. So every Bitcoin hiccup will affect directly an entire parallel universe of crypto ecosystems. There is a very small part of this market in which cryptos are traded against ETH, but first, the volume is insignificant and second, I don't see ETH doing great either (although, to be honest, one of my possible scenarios for what will happen after August 1st, includes ETH as the dominant crypto, reigning in place of a bipolar, greedy and old king, once known as Bitcoin).
But I'm rambling.
The role of this post is to give a little bit of relief to those waiting in the dark and not knowing what's happening. There is a website where you can watch in real time (as transactions are validated on the Bitcoin blockchain, that is) the adoption of SegWit.

I'm not going to dwell into the benefits of SegWit, Bip148 and the likes, please refer to this excellent article if you want to know more.
But it's an interesting activity to watch, and an even more interesting anthropological analysis. Never in the history of human kind we could watch in real time, transparently, the making of our future wealth or demise. Admittedly, Bitcoin is not the entire wealth of the planet and its demise will only impact a market worth 80billions USD (almost the entire value of Starbucks), but the symbolism behind this process is way too powerful to be ignored.
And boy, I remember that, 30 years ago, it was cool to watch soccer games online.

I'd like to see a hard fork. I'm not pleased with the censorship and control Blockstream has used on the core team and bitcoin users. While segwit may have value, it's not worth the trade of giving control of bitcoin to a single company.
It will definitely be interesting to watch what happens in the next few weeks... definitely volatile times.
i just tried reading up on segwit and bip148 before 9am. i think my mind is turning into goo. i have no idea what any of it means -- i'm kinda happy about that.

Thanks a lot for sharing this post. I'll try watching the adoption live online. It will be quite interesting. I do definitely agree with you whatever happens to BTC will affect the rest of the crypto market. Even for buying the alt coins, you normally have to buy BTC in order to purchase them.
