It's time to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day

The easiest way to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day is simply to order 2 large pizzas - just like Laszlo Hanyecz did 8 years ago, when he bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 BTC on May 22, 2010. At that time, there was no pizza joint willing to accept his Bitcoins, so he paid the amount to another user, who delivered the pizzas to him. According to the Bitcoin Pizza Twitter account, those two pizzas would today be worth more than $83 million!

In today's world, though, you wouldn't need an intermediary of any kind -- you'd be able to order a pizza directly from a restaurant and pay in Bitcoin. One website that I stumbled across is called Bitcoin Restaurants - it lets you type in the name of a city or state in the United States and see the names of local restaurants that accept Bitcoin as a form of payment.

For example, let's say that you live in New York City. You can see at a glance that there are a few pizza places on the Lower East Side, in the East Village and in Brooklyn that accept Bitcoin:

But it still seems to be a kinda random bunch of places. For example, one place on the Lower East Side is called Old Man Hustle and seems to be more of a bar/comedy club than a pizza joint. Another place is called Le Village and seems to be more of a Paris-style bistro than a Naples-style pizza parlor. But, as they say, it's the thought that counts, right?

Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! Let the pizza emoticons flow!
