Send Bitcoin Cash Via SMS - Killer App?
It was recently announced that Cointext a firm founded by Vin Armani also the CTO of Cointext, the planned rollout for a project that will enable users to send Bitcoin Cash without an internet connection , one will be able to send BHC to anyone else by using "short message service" protocol, thats it a simple text message. This means transaction would be possible for users in developing countries
“Money, or currency, has always been the killer app for bitcoin, not merely a store of value,” Armani emphasizes.
BCH fan or not this is hard to not find as a good step towards mass adoption , we dont need another ultra high priced coin in the long run what we need as a community in general is mass adoption and the ability to transact crypto via sms could potentially bring in billions of new users.
It is my hope that this will become a possibility for other p2p coins , taking the necessity for a direct internet connection or data connection out of the equation and enabling transactions to be routed through a protocol enabled on even the cell phones of a decade ago like the Nokia "feature phone" aka the brick .
The Cointext development team has explained that transactions that take place over sms are settled on chain and are impossible to be altered by the Cointext network. Neither would the ability to recover funds on a lost device be possible with the Cointexrt sms plugin. The project is currently in beta phase still and is currently available in a handful of countries, however Armani hopes that following a successful beta phase to make the service available in 54 countries.
“If everything goes smoothly, we’ll launch the next wave of access numbers in April and May, including the first language translations,” Armani adds.
Right now you can use the beta version if in a supported country such as the USA , Cointext charges .05 cents per tx and fees are as normal. For the time being you will be rewarded as a new user with $0.50 in BCH for texting the word "CASH" to the firms access number.Instructions and other command prompts can be found on the Cashtext website https://cointext.io/instructions/.
This should definitely be a project to keep an eye on , the potential enabled by its success could be huge and widespread for the mass adoption of crypto.
