NASA Awards Grant for Ethereum Blockchain Based Research
Although space exploration has reached new heights since the latter part of 20th century, long distance space communication still poses an issue as most of the communication equipment is still based on Earth. As NASA sends more and more probes in deep space, the transfer of information from Earth to the probes take a long time due to the ever increasing distance between them. This delay in communication can have serious repercussions, especially in cases of emergency when the satellite needs to be manually controlled in order to stay out of harm’s way like space debris. It also hinders the flow of data. Using the power of the blockchain could be extremely beneficial for this application as it will allow the satellite to think for itself using AI and logic based technology and react appropriately in dangerous situations.
