How much of Bitcoin's value do you think comes from people intending to buy to buy altcoin but not actually going through with it?
Bitcoin is a gateway to some of the other cryptocurrencies, but it's also a good performer.
Has anyone here bought Bitcoin intending to use it to buy an altcoin and then decided not to? I for one have. I intended to buy Maidsafe but just left it as Bitcoin instead....
A lot of new investors will start buying bitcoin, because they don't even know altcoins exists. Once they get into the cryptoworld this way, their eyes open up and diversify by buying altcoins with (pieces of) their BTC.
How much value nobody knows, but it could be significant.
