Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Issue Its Own Cryptocurrency

A popular French football team, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is on the move to issue its own cryptocurrency via partnership with Socios, according to a report on September 11. This initiative by PSG, a team owned by a Qatari Businessman, Nasser Al-khelaifi, is to incentivize cooperation from its fans worldwide.

PSG, a club that has faced several controversies including spending 200m pounds on a single player last year’s transfer spree.

The team, popularly known as Les Parisiens (The Parisians) or Les Rouge-et-Bleu, will be expecting to launch proprietary tokens come spring 2019, making the Les Parisiens the first football team to have done so, in a French news site Presse-Citron.

However, the acquisition of the token will offer fans several opportunities like voting for team jersey choices either at home or away matches and also meeting with players in some matches, according to Presse-Citron.

According to the report, PSG hope to make polling process more transparent to enable transactions publicly visible.

According to PSG’s chief partnership officer Marc Armstrong,

“Paris Saint-Germain is determined to leverage the opportunities that cryptocurrency can provide. This revolutionary technology will have an important impact on the club’s overall business strategy and the way we engage with our fanbase.”

This development will attract other big European football clubs to adopt their own cryptocurrency.
