Top crypto during holidays - a look at history

Crypto ecosystems have grown significantly over time, and their top has undergone dramatic changes. In 2013 there were only 59 crypto, and now there are over 2000.

Next we'll take a look at how the top 10 crypto have changed over the years.

2013-2014

On December 22, 2013, there were only 59 crypto in the Coinmarketcap. The year 2014 was a record growth, with no less than 506 on December 29. Despite the increase, the price developments were similar to this year. 6 out of 10 top crypto lost over 80% of their value.


Within a week, Bitcoin had fallen from $ 619 to $ 316.

Litecoin ranked second in the top market head in fourth place due to a price drop from $ 17.1 to $ 2.74.

Ripple (XRP) was the only crypto that increased by 7% in 2014, from $ 0.022 to $ 0.024. XRP also climbed from third to second place as market share.

Peercoin (PPC) fell from fourth place in 2013 to 19th place, recording a loss of 81.5%.

Namecoin (NMC) fell from No. 5 to position 13, the price being down 82.5%, from $ 4.13 to $ 0.72.

Quark (QRK) left the 6th place in 27th place, with a 92.6% drop.

Nxt (NXT) recorded a fall of 18% and moved from 6th place from the end of 2013 to the 9th place in December 2014.

At the end of 2013, bitshares (PTS) was ranked 8 with a $ 12.45 rating. A year later, PTS was ranked only 45th, after dropping 99.99% from $ 12.45 to $ 0.00049. Worldcoin (WDC), ranked No. 5 in 2013, fell to 53, registering a loss of 98.5% from $ 0.4 to $ 0.006.

Cripto Megacoin (MEC) declined from tenth to 48th place on the market, due to a 96.8% drop in price.

Only five of the top 10 crypto in 2013 remained in the top the following year.


2014-2015

Of the top 2014 crypto, only Bitcoin and Litecoin registered increases in the following year.


BTC increased by over 100% from the beginning of 2015 to the end. Ripple managed to keep second in the top market but its price dropped by 94%. XRP declined in 2015 from $ 0.024 to $ 0.0062.

Crypto on third place in 2014, Paycoin (XPY) collapsed 48th in 2015, due to a 99.6% drop. Its value dropped from $ 10.74 to just $ 0.038.

Litecoin had a 25% increase in 2015, from $ 2.74 to $ 3.43 and rising from 4th to 3rd.

Bitshares (BTS), which ranked No. 5 in 2014, fell 8th with a loss of 80% in value. Similarly, maidsafecoin (MAID) moved from 6th to 10th, after a 72% price drop.

Stellar XLM ended the year 2015 in 9th place, after being ranked 7th in the previous year. Its low price by 70% during the year.

Dogecoin managed to rise from No. 8 to No. 6 despite a 23% drop in price.

NXT came out of the top 10 after its price dropped by 63% in 2015.

PPC has experienced an annual decline of 31%, but managed to rise from 10th to 8th place.

In total, the number of crypto increased from 506 to 562 in 2015. Eight of them continued to remain in the top 10.


2016, the year of significant price increases

BTC, ETH, DASH and MAID have registered 3-digit increases in 2016.


Bitcoin raised its value by 111% from December 2015 to 2016, from $ 416.5 to $ 878.8.

XRP rose only 3.4% over the same period and lost second place to Ethereum (ETH).

Litecoin recorded 27% growth but fell from No. 3 to 4th in 2015.

ETH was the performer of 2016, recording an increase of 760%. Its price has gone from $ 0.85 to $ 7.3, and crypto has ranked second in the top market market.

Dash increased by 270% in 2016, but fell from 5th to 7th. Similarly, DOGE increased by 42% but came out of top 10 and landed 13th.

PPC was the only top-ranked crypto to record price declines in 2016. With a 43% loss, PPC fell from 7th to 43rd.

BTC increased by 26%, but it was eliminated from No. 8 in the top spot and was barely ranked 25th in the top market cap. XLM had a similar evolution - although it rose by 55%, it dropped from 9th to 16th place.

MAID managed to grow 620% in 2016, which has raised it from No. 10 to 8th.

The total number of crypto increased from 562 to 644 in 2016, and the top retained 6 of the top crypto of the previous year.


2017 - record prices for Top Crypto

Christmas of 2017 was the record year for crypto. 9 of them 10 top crypto registered increases of thousands or even tens of thousands. During the year, Bitcoin increased by 1500%, from $ 879 to $ 14,054 on Christmas. ETH continued to rank second in the top market head, with an increase of 9.345%. Its price has risen from $ 7.29 to $ 688.6.


Ripple (XRP) had an increase of 17,140%, but in spite of this, it dropped from 3rd place to 4th place.

The LTC also moved from 4th to 5th with an increase of 6.255%.

Monero (XMR) fell from No. 5 to 10th despite a 3.455% increase in price.

Ethereum classic (ETC) fell 17th in 2017, although it rose by 2.725% from $ 1.10 to $ 31.10.

DASH dropped a top position from 7 to 8, despite a 12,140% increase in price.

MAID had the biggest drop in the top, from 8th to 55th, although it raised its price by 670%.

Nem (XEM) was the performer of the year, recording a record high of 24,345%, and was ranked 9th in the top.

Augur (REP) came out of top 10 and landed 36th, although its price rose 2.280%.

The number of crypto doubled in 2017, from 644 to 1334. Seven of the top 10 crypto managed to keep their position as market leaders.


2018 - Significant price cuts

The top crypto registered significant price declines in 2018. Bitcoin dropped 80% during the year from a record $ 20,000 to about $ 3800.


Ethereum (ETH) fell to No. 3 on the top market head, with an annual decline of 77%.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) also dropped third in fourth place after a 93% drop in price. Its value has fallen from $ 2,956 to just $ 206.

XRP had the best annual performance, down 60% and ranked fourth in second place.

Litecoin dropped two places, from 5 to 8, after a 87% drop.

Cardano (ADA) managed to climb 5th, but the 87.5% drop brought him out of the top 10.

Similarly, Iota (MIOTA) fell from 7th to 12th, after losing 89% of the value.

Dash followed suit, moving from number 8 to 15 after a 91.5% drop in price.

XEM managed to keep the 9th in the top for two consecutive christmas. But its value fell 91% this year, and the token fell to 16th.

XMR also lost three positions due to a 83% price drop. From 10th place, Monero is currently 13th.

Altogether, three of the top crypto retained their previous year's position, and six were able to remain in top 10. The total number of crypto and tokens increased in 2018 from 1334 to 2067.
