Wyoming Residents May Soon Be Able To Pay Their Bills With Bitcoin
The Wyoming State Legislature is debating a plan that would make it simpler for citizens to pay their bills using the cryptocurrency.
Wyoming senators are debating a measure that would enable citizens in the state to pay their electricity bills, rent and other expenditures using bitcoin. The bill would also exclude citizens from paying taxes on any money they receive from bitcoin transactions.
The suggestion comes as Wyoming legislators explore whether or not to approve a legislation letting companies to use the digital currency, which is growing popularity as an alternative to conventional payment methods like credit cards or cheques.
If enacted, Wyoming would become the first state in the US that permits citizens to pay their bills with bitcoin. However, there are still certain constraints in place: The state wouldn't enable individuals to use bitcoin for enterprises or charities, and it wouldn't make it simpler for them to purchase items online or over the phone.
