I watched Biden's press conference.
I thought it was a mixed bag. He had some good moments, but also some bad ones. The most obvious of the latter was when he confused Kamala Harris with Donald Trump. There was some rambling/losing his train of thought, as well.
Overall, it wasn't terrible. I'd say it was on the low to mediocre end of normal for a politician. I don't think any of the gaffes proved he has dementia or the like. They were cases of him getting mixed up or losing his train of thought. For example, he does NOT really think Kamala Harris is Trump. Rather, he was thinking of both of them simultaneously (the question was about whether he thought she could beat Trump), and plugged in the wrong name. The same goes with his calling Zelensky "Putin" earlier in the day (that time, he quickly corrected himself).
These kinds of mistakes happen to almost everybody who does a lot of public speaking (myself included). The problem is Biden has them too often - twice in one day, now. The number of gaffes is what indicates he's fading, not the type. For that reason, this performance probably won't still concerns about his cognition - especially since that problem could easily get worse over time.
I will pass over a bunch of things he said that were wrong or misleading, but were just standard political rhetoric. For example, rising prices in recent years were NOT caused by "corporate greed" and there are many "mainstream economists" who are highly critical of Biden's policies. But his saying this stuff isn't a sign of cognitive decline. It's just normal political obfuscation.
As before, I still think Trump is much worse. But that doesn't mean we can just sweep Biden's problems under the rug. They matter for both electoral and governance reasons. Those who say otherwise are selling you malarkey!
