Bible study: "We offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe." Hebrews 12:28
The bible tells us that Jesus makes us enter, makes us receive, a kingdom of unshakable realities, in contrast to the reality of conmutable things: "This phrase, ´Yet once more´, indicates the removal of what is shaken - that is created things - so that what cannot be shaken may remain." Hebrews 12:27.
This opposition between the eternal and the temporal is what gives rise to the opposition between the spirit and the flesh because the mind can be directed towards the apparent goods that are the goods of the world such as money and power; or the mind can seek the spiritual goods that are eternal such as mercy, perseverance and wisdom. We live according to the flesh or we live according to the spirit, we serve God or money.
And those who receive this kingdom must worship not the things of the world, which are subject to change, but the eternal and immutable: "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for endeed our God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:28-29.
Worship in the bible is a pure intellectual activity. To worship God is to worship his perfections, his divine qualities, that is to say to worship wisdom, to worship mercy.
Jesus reminds us in the gospels of the importance of this activity of the mind: "Jesus said to him, ´Away from me, Satan!´ For it is written: ´Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.´", Matthew 4:10; "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshiperes will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.", John 4:22-24.
This teaching of the Bible on the focus of the mind on eternal realities is of great importance because it is the source of all prophetic or clairvoyant activity, every prophet or seer is first and foremost a worshiper. The opening of the third eye, the eye of the mind, is a fruit of contemplation, only those who open the third eye can understand the mysteries of wisdom.
