① $8.29 — Peerplays

Jonathon Bahai of Peerplays notes the latest updates, including: new GUI layouts, tournament backend is completed, gaming logic is now in progress, Peerplays has an internationally recognized trademark, and their lawyers are making sure everything is legal-ready for the next crowdsale.

Michael Maloney answers your questions. UIA tokens were issued as receipts for the initial public crowdsale. Those will be replaced with core tokens in the genesis block on the Peerplays blockchain. For security reasons they won't be releasing their code on github until they've launched the blockchain. Testing is currently focused on the GUI and gameplay. Since they are working on the corporate structure and covering themselves legally right now, their awareness campaign will start once that is finished.

② $2.18 — Gridcoin

@cm-steem pre-announces the 2017 four-day BOINC Workshop which will have short talks, tutorials, development news, discussion, and a hackathon. Comment on this post if you have any ideas you'd like to propose for BOINC, including possible venues.

Gridcoin has been integrated into the Bitshares network via OpenLedger through the Open.GRC token. It has also been integrated into Coinomi, an Android wallet. This means you can now run a modified BOINC client on your android device, point it at a Gridcoin pool, and have the coins sent directly to your mobile device eliminating the need for PC hardware. Because BOINC projects are isolated, you're only mining against other Android users.

Project Rain is a massive, new share-dropping vector that doesn't require your end-users to handle their wallet private keys nor require proof of IRL identity. There's no team requirement, unlike other BOINC projects, and 36 different digital currencies are supported.

The 11th Gridcoin Community Hangout was held on Saturday, October 15th on the BeyondBitcoin mumble server. For a limited time you can join these discussions and get free Gridcoin. He also mentioned Gridcoin's potential interest in becoming a sidechain in future. This would allow them to issue UIAs and not have to create a market-pegged asset.

③ $2.07 — SteemIt.City

@rubellitefae explains the concept behind SteemIt.City. It's a physical community and tech-centric incubator whose economy is driven by digital currency. They currently are in the first phase: acquiring a former hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia, moving in the founding members, and preparing the onboarding process for future members.

In the short term the will be working on crypto projects. Later, this will expand out to include any types of projects. SteemIt.City isn't a for profit business, but they want to help people create their own businesses from ideas they work on at SteemIt.City. Their aim is to help people do what they love doing. They do this by reducing costs of living and taking care of the mundane parts of day-to-day living, so people have more time and money to focus on their projects.

@faddat talks about living in Cambodia. Because of nearby Angkor Wat, the largest temple complex in the world, Siem Reap is paradoxically a huge tourist city with an international airport and also isolated in the middle of nowhere. So, members can have as much solitude or entertainment as they like. He also talks about future plans for the project, including acquiring land as a place to experiment with arcological structures that maximize the collaborative, community-based lifestyle.

Their philosophy is that when all the members of a community follow their passion—rather than work under wage slavery—each individual, and the community as a whole, is better by all measures. @faddat also talks about how intentional communities like SteemIt.City will be havens for people wanting to escape censorship. @menta talks about how Cambodia is relatively law free, but Siem Reap—being a tourist city—has more public safety measures in tact. He and his wife have been living in Cambodia for a few years already.
