Story Chapter Seven

  My New World Chloe began to feel a sensation of coldness on her body and slowly she began to be aware of all of her extremities, and then she started to come back into her consciousness. She felt as if she wanted to move, and yet she could not will herself to move. Where was she? Why could she not move? There was sense of a pressure in her head, and she was breathing rapidly. She began to become aware of something that looked like a flattened flashlight that had no wires or attachments to it come into her peripheral vision, and moved about 6 inches above her forehead. A red light coming from it changed several colors and then went to a violent color. Chloe began to feel a sense of peace and she had a wonderful sense of well-being. She thought this is nice but wondered where Aunt Jessica was. She must be here somewhere, and this is nice. Peacefully she drifted into a trance like sleep. Several hours later Chloe awakened and she was fully dressed in clothes that were definitely not hers. Chloe felt that they were comfortable, yet they were strangely different and they seemed to be glowing, light in weight and they seemed to change color ever so slightly. She felt of her hands, she felt her face and her head and everything seemed to be in place. She did not hurt anywhere but was a little bit woozy. She vaguely remembered something happening during their flight from San Andros and thought again, where was Aunt Jessica.  As she wrestled with these thoughts, a tall woman appeared in front of her, spoke to her by name. She asked was there was anything that she needed. Chloe's mind was racing, she had a million questions, but it seemed as if she could not get them to come out. All she managed to say was "Where is Aunt Jessica?" The woman smiled and said, "Your Aunt Jessica is just fine and we need you to rest for a while. We will be back, and will taking you for a walk, and will help to fill you in on the details of how you got here." The woman smiled, and added, "There's nothing you need to be concerned about, everything is just fine." Chloe felt so relaxed, she was thinking that the tall woman was pleasant, and drifted off into sleep yet again. The tall woman came back, and Chloe found that she was in fact able to get up out of the bed and move around in the room. Her inquisitive nature made notice there were no windows. There were none, but she was sure there had to be. She looked at the walls and the ceiling, there were no light switches, and she knew lights had been off and now they were all in bright light. Chloe had many questions if she could just stay focused. As Chloe rested from her moving around and the tall woman showed up and she had a man with her. Chloe noticed he was a very handsome man, and she wondered if maybe this woman and this man were a couple. The man spoke first, and introduced himself to Chloe as being Dr. John. Chloe smiled and pointed to the woman and asked who she was. Dr. John said, "You have already met Mairenn before, but I am sure that you do not remember. Mairenn is my assistant." Dr. John asked Chloe to tell him what she did remember. Chloe told that she had been in a plane and she believed it was a Cessna 182, and that they had run into some difficulties. Chloe at that time had not very much information to give, but did not seem to be bothered by that. Once again, Chloe wanted to know about Aunt Jessica and said, "I want to see Aunt Jessica."  Dr. John glanced at Mairenn, then looked at Chloe, and said, "Your Aunt Jessica is just fine but I am afraid it's not possible for you to see her and I know that brings up questions. We will answer those questions shortly. First, we need to make sure how well you hold up, and how well you can walk. Sometimes your experience will make you a bit woozy."  Dr. John was a handsome man that looked to be in his early twenties, but to be a doctor surely he would have to be older than that. Dr. John stood five feet eleven inches, tall; slim with blond hair and blue eyes. His assistant Mairenn was about five foot, eight inches and very slim and had the curliest long black hair Chloe could ever remember. Her eyes were blue, and she had to spend some time in the sun in that she had a gorgeous tan. Dr. John and his assistant stood on each side of Chloe and helped her to keep her balance. Chloe remembered later thinking that if she started to fall she hoped that Dr. John would be the one to catch her. She did not quite trust Mairenn, but she had no problem trusting Dr. John. They walked around a few corridors and they both told Chloe that she was doing great. For a while, she would be regaining her strength. As they headed back towards her room, she became aware one more time that there were no windows or doors, at least the traditional ones.  Chloe thought to herself that she would have to ask Dr. John why is that there were no windows in the building. Dr. John and his assistant helped Chloe back into the bed and made sure that she was comfortable and told her that in 30 minutes, she would have some nourishment, and then she would be going for some counseling. Chloe wondered why she needed counseling, but she gave it up, thinking that maybe she misunderstood what he had said. The nourishment arrived about 30 minutes later as she promised; she was hungry but was disappointed to find that her nourishment was liquid. Chloe cautiously sipped the liquid and to her surprise, it had a very pleasant taste and before she realized it she had drank the entire container. It seemed to satisfy her, but she wondered if she was on a liquid diet for some reason and she would have to remember and ask that question, and yes, she wanted to ask about the windows.  Chloe made her self-comfortable, and before many minutes had past, two young women in uniforms that seemed to be more interested in their own conversations stepped into her room through the door that opened by itself and made no sound. They explained to Chloe that they had come for her, they would take her to her counseling session, and that the two of them would collect her when it was over and brought back to her room for the evening. The two young women talked busily amongst each other and did not offer any more information. Chloe felt like she was fine, she felt like she had her strength back as they headed down a hallway in the opposite direction were Dr. John and Mairenn had taken her for her walk. It opened up into a wide space where there were plenty of plants and seats, with music playing in the background, Chloe listened but the music was unfamiliar to her. They arrived at what appeared to be a large meeting room and the two girls ushered Chloe in and had her sit at the table in front of the room, there did not appear to be anybody else. After a few minutes, a man appeared who was probably in his sixties, walked over, and introduced himself as Dr. Rassin. He was very pleasant, and he told Chloe that it was an informal session and that he would try to answer any questions that she had. Any questions that he could not answer then he would find someone that could. Dr. Rassin began by saying, "We are very glad to have you here with us, but this is not going to be where you will be staying permanently. We wanted to the evaluate you and make sure that you were okay before you go to your new home." Chloe immediately interrupted and asked, "How is it that I have a home; I'm living with my aunt and uncle in Nassau. Where is this place?" Dr. Rassin ignored the question, and went on to tell Chloe that she would be living in a County apartment building, she would have her own place, but there would be on her floor a resident supervisor that would be available to her to help her in anyway. Dr. Rassin went on to explain to Chloe, "That this is going to be shocking news for you, and it will take some time for you to assimilate all this information. I just want to emphasize that we are here for you, and we will do everything that we can to make you comfortable, and to ensure that all your needs are provided."  "We have come to realize that you will assimilate into society just fine, although there will be times where you will miss your family and he stopped," and looked at Chloe and waited for Chloe to speak. There was a lump in Chloe's throat and she found that she could not speak, but the question that she wanted to ask was why are we talking about an apartment, where is my family, where and what is this place. Dr. Rassin recognized the fact that Chloe was not able to speak at that moment so he continued as he reached out and held her hand. He seemed to have a calming effect on Chloe and she relaxed a little.  "Chloe on the earth they're lines that go around and across the earth at certain points, and were these lines meet there is a buildup of vast energy, and sometimes this energy will flow and collapse anything that is there. Everything is energy, we are all energy, when we happen to be in the area at that time, and we could say the wrong place at the wrong time, the energy is transferred through time and space into another dimension. You are in a dimension very similar to Earth; everything is very similar to what you left behind. We would say that we are technologically and mentally far advanced, but we are very similar to you. The question will come to your mind later why you cannot go back, and the answers that is very simple, it is not possible at this time. Scientist have been experimenting in that area for a long time and we have made great strides in that direction but it is still very dangerous. We have a current program that we believe holds much promise called SYOTOS or See you on the other side."  "For all practical purposes your life will be lived out here and you will be missed by your family and friends there. You will find that compared to what you left behind there are many comforts for you here. Your needs are taken care of and you will live your life in time as you please and can have a very enjoyable life. As I said earlier the only downside is at this stage in the science that we have, and the knowledge that we have, and where we have advanced to, we have no way of getting you back."  "Chloe I know that all of this is very shocking and very difficult for you to put it all together and that's why we had to have this meeting. We will have somebody living with you in your apartment for a while, and it will be his or her task for a while. Their whole purpose for the next several months will to be to help you assimilate into our society, and you will find everybody will have their hearts into helping you and being kind to you."  "One last thing and we will end this session, we will talk again tomorrow, and I want to mention you're doing just fine." Chloe asked again about her Aunt Jessica. Dr. Rassin told Chloe that she is well, "You're Aunt Jessica was not able to make it through to this dimension. Chloe, she ended up being rescued by the fisherman that you passed over on the way to San Andros." Dr. Rasssin looked down at the laptop gadget that he had with him. "She ended up being in between our two worlds. We became aware of this we were able to do some things that allowed her to stay in the world that you came from and in the world that you were born. Do you remember a fishing boat when you were on your way to San Andros? That fishing boat fished your Aunt Jessica from the water and took her into Nassau. She is in the hospital, but she is doing fine and she will be just fine, although she will have, no recollection of what happened and what happened to you. You will be in your family's memories forever, and unfortunately, they will not be able to know what happened to you, at least at this time. They will know that you vanished in a plane crash, and yet another mystery is that they will never find the plane, as the plane is in this dimension and someday we'll show it to you."  "Chloe, I understand that this is very emotional, and very shocking information and I wish there was a good way to present it to you. We have found that the best way is to be straight up and honest with people, we will not lie to you, and we will be here for you. There will be a time where you will grieve, you will be upset and that is perfectly normal; however, you need to then try to let go. You need to recognize that you're Aunt Jessica is perfectly fine, and you'll have to trust me in that I would not lie to you." As Chloe sat there for what seemed like hours, but it was only minutes she began to sob, and then she began to shake and she wept openly. Dr. Rassin reached out for her left hand, held it with his right hand, patted her hand, and told her, "Trust me this is not the end, and this can be a wonderful life for you." Chloe felt a sense of peace and calm envelope her and she stopped sobbing and Dr. Rassin wiped her face with a tissue. The two young women arrived back assigned to Chloe's visit with Dr.Rassin and told her that they will take her back to her room, and would make sure that she was comfortable and would stay with her for a while. The girls were friendlier this time, they did talk amongst themselves, but they always included Chloe in their conversation. Within minutes, they were back in the room, and Chloe was glad to get back into the bed, she felt much drained emotionally and she felt weak. Chloe told of her feeling of weakness and in about a minute a drink like before came. Chloe for the next several days got in many questions of her own, and she asked many questions. Some of the questions she asked raised more questions, there were more questions than answers, and it made her more anxious at times. She was coping well they told her. As the days went by she began to reconcile herself to her fate that she was in another dimension and would probably never ever see her family again, or her friends and they would never really know what happened to her. This concept of another dimension still made her head hurt to think about it. One day as Chloe was sitting there, Dr. John came in and asked how she was doing, and if there was anything, he could do for her. Chloe said yes, "Where are the windows?" Dr. John smiled and looked at her and said, "We have windows in some of the buildings, you will find that the light that we manufacture unofficially in here is more conducive with keeping everybody healthier. You will find that when you go out our suns are a bit different from what you were used to and you will find that you will want to wear sunglasses whenever you go out, particularly until your eyes adjust. There is nothing to worry about not having windows in your room."  Chloe asked, "Did you say two suns?" "Yes, Chloe we have two suns and you will get accustomed to it in a little time. The light of our suns is very beneficial to life." Dr. John looked like he was going to leave and Chloe quickly asked if he had another couple of minutes. Dr. John told her that he did and asked what she had on her mind. Chloe said that she had remembered something that happened. Dr. John immediately sat on one of the chairs, gave his undivided attention to Chloe, and said, "Please go on." Chloe told him her account of being at the terminal at the landing strip in San Andros and about the old priest, "I can't remember his name now, but he was a Catholic priest who came by and begged us not to leave and to spend the night in San Andros and leave in the morning. He would not, or could not give us any more information, but had insisted that we not leave. We did leave, so did he know something, or was he aware of what was going to happen to us?"  Dr. John had an expression on his face that made Chloe believe that he knew more than he was going to tell her at least at that time. He said, "That is very interesting, and we will talk about this some more. He said that she had his promise," and then he got up and said," I must go and that he had a very important meeting to go. We'll talk some more Chloe," he promised and smiled. Chloe returned his smile and with that Dr. John was out through the doors that opened by themselves and was gone leaving Chloe with her thoughts. Now remembering the incident with the old priest, she had lots of questions but no answers. Chloe stayed wake thinking of all the events she could remember, and always thinking of what Dr. Rassin discussed with her and her recent recollection of the old priest. She realized she was tired, she struggled to say awake for just a moment, then she drifted off into a deep sleep. The days passed by, and then on the 14th day they told Chloe that she was be discharged to her new life, and that she would live with a friend named Liz. They told Chloe that Liz had taken it upon herself to gather Chloe some personal items and a small selection of clothing and that they would go shopping for the rest of whatever she needed once she settled into her apartment.
