Hop on, let's brew some tea!
Well it's been a while between posts folks. Work's been pretty hectic and my side projects including working on my latest batch of home brew have been chewing up my spare time.
Time to take a break and enjoy a cup of tea. Or in this case, try the concept of hops tea and see how we go. Normally used to bitter and flavor beers, apparently use can also use them in tea for a world of benefits that I'm too lazy to look up and recite here. So we're going to need a cup:
We're going to need some hops (I have a couple of hops to choose from in pellet form, kept in the freezer to make them last longer.) For the first tea I've gone with some Mosaic hops. Let's get fruity!
General consensus on the internet is to use a teaspoon per cup. I also couldn't find my usual mini tea infuser anywhere in the kitchen, so I've dragged out the hop bomb I use in brewing. Overkill for a cup of tea really but whatever works,
Instantly with the hot water added it starts to look like mulched up grass from attempting to mow the backyard after it rained. This green stuff does not look appealing at all, especially when it the hop haze going on.
But how did it taste?
Er...awful. Horribly bitter even with just one minute of steeping it was like chowing down on a mouthful of bitter root washed down with dirt, leaving a pretty horrific taste in the back of your mouth. I couldn't drink any more than a couple of sips.
Maybe if we added something else..
Nope, it's bitter root and horrible taste...with just a hint of honey. Yech, this one was a real failure.
What if we tried a different hops?
And used a lot less in out brewing..
Would this work?
Er...no. Slightly easier to drink but still bitter. Nothing other than a nasty bitterness that you'll immediately want to wash your mouth out as soon as you've tried it.
I think I'll stick to using them just in my beer for now..
