Bacchus, Flemish old brown ale.
As I was reading this post by @eroche and getting all nostalgic, I remembered I had this wee bottle, gifted by a friend, sitting in my fridge:
The beer is a traditional, old style Flemish ale from a brewery in West Flanders, in Belgium. They make a range of beers there, though the
only other one of theirs that I have come across in North America is Kasteel.
Bacchus is a mixed fermentation beer - top fermenting ale yeast and finished with Brett - which gives it a distinct but gentle sour note, very refreshing, under a very fruity aroma. The packaging mentions a pleasant, wine-like taste. Not sure if I would ever mistake this for wine, but pleasant it is!
Look at that colour (it will be gone soon)!
Cheers! 😋
