The angular diameters of the Sun and the Moon are very close to each other

Total solar eclipse

It is a fun coincidence that the Sun's physical diameter is about 400 times greater than that of the Moon but that latter happens to be about 400 times closer to us than the Sun. Thus they appear to be of similar size. The fact that the Moon appears to be at least as large as it does results in the fact that there can be total solar eclipses.

I have seen a total solar eclipse once. That was on the 22th of July 1990. A friend of mine who is an amateur astronomer and I traveled to Joensuu in Eastern Finland by train from Tampere. We were stayed as guests at the home of a former neighbour of my parents' in Hammaslahti to the south of Joensuu. The Sun was about 5 degrees above the horizon when the eclipse took place at about 5 am. Our former neighbour drove us to the shore of the Lake Höytiäinen, a large lake to the north of the town of Joensuu. We had welding glasses as a light filter for my friend's camera and to be held by hand over our eyes.

I saw the last one we had. :)

Leo had forgotten his eclipse viewing glasses that came with a science mag at home, so while I took them to him, I also made a hole in the science mag's cover page and took an extra paper with me so I could show his class mates the eclipse because I thought some of them might lack viewing glasses for the event.

They were all thrilled to see the moon getting in front of the sun showing so clearly on the paper. I'm so glad I did that. :)

That sounds great. There was a partial eclipse some time ago. When was it?
I missed it, sadly.

It was 20. March 2015.

I saw the partial eclipse last year here in Mexico. Also, I witnessed one in 2006 or so in Nigeria.

I always use to take pictures of my very simple publications, my cell phone and my wife's. but I'm going to save to try to buy a good camera. Regards..

It's unreal. Why do they have almost the same size.
There is probably some special reason for that!

Not that I know of.

I have a feeling that when the moon, sun and earth are on the same line. We can see the ass of the star god. We think it's an eclipse, but No-no-no (Bitconnect guy telling it). It's actually a galaxy god trying to take a crap. That my theory.
Do you think I'm retarded (I'm definitely retarded but...) or It makes sense?

I think you are a potato who has been boiling a little too long. :D

you create a great post...i know some new from your post....i like your post..and i waiting for your next post brother...

Oh and how interesting this univers is, yesterday I smoked my cigarette outside and i look up to the black sky, the picture that i saw was amazing, clouds that surrounded the moon war truly fantstic.

I especially liked the knowlede about "The angular diameters of the Sun and the Moon are very close to each other" because its the main principle of any aclipse as I understand. seeing an eclipse is a great experiences.
