Near to me when i visited this beautiful place and this amazing airport last year , its a bit small airport because there are all around mountains and the steep area is so much small in this valley but believe me this is one of the beautiful airport i have ever seen, look at the control tower in the next picture which is not so big but so beautiful,
as i already told you that there are mountains on every side of this airport and due to this the take off and the landing of planes are so much difficult and the mountains are so much high altitude you can see the PIA plane in the next picture which is ready for take off and you can see the snow covered mountains in the background , this is the beauty of this airport.
Here you can see the plane after landing , this airport is located at the top , you can say that its the roof top of the Earth where it is located and the pilots face so much difficulties during the landing time and the airlines appoint so much active and responsible pilots on these type of flights which take off to Skardu or gilgit airports.
The total elevation of this great airport is around 2,230 meters and around 7,300 feet due to which pilots face so much technical difficulties while having take off the plane and another fact about this airport that the run way is so small of this airport and you have to fly with in some seconds.
As i said before this is not just a commercial flights airport other than that its a most important air base of pakistan air force called as Skardu air base , the pakistan army have a issues on the sichen glaciers with its neighbor India due to the Kashmir issue and thats why this is the most important area in terms of war planing and this airbase is used for the army operations as well.here are some spectaculars views of the officers of Pakistan airforce and the heavy jets of the army .
The Skardu airport is so much famous for its spectacular vies , you know what the passengers stay on the airport for a long time and they capture pictures and stay there for rest and amused by the naturals views which are every where in this airport.

in winters the flight operations stopped for some months but here you can check the run way of skardu airport in the winter season the run way is around 8740 feet long and elevation is around 7400 feet of this runway.
Due to high level of snow falling in winter the airport closed the flight operation you can see the runway is fully covered with snow and the works in progress to open the runway for flight operations
