Clay types
Green clay
Green clay is indicated for oily and acne skins. It has astringent, toning, stimulating, drying, bactericidal, analgesic and healing action if applied as a facial mask in the beauty treatment.
It performs a natural peeling, removing excess oil from the skin. It nourishes tissues with mineral salts and absorbs solar radiation, retarding aging.
White Clay
White clay is indicated for sensitive and dehydrated skin. It contains the highest percentage in aluminum and its pH is very close to the pH of the skin.
Its benefits are to lighten, absorb the oiliness of the skin without dehydration, and have a soothing and healing action. It has mild tensile action and therefore can be used on all skin types, especially those exposed too much in the sun.
Red Clay
Red clay is indicated for more sensitive and pinkish skins. It has great capacity to absorb oil and renew the structure of the cells, leaving the face, body and even the hair more beautiful and healthy.
Because it's rich in iron oxide and copper, the red clay helps in the breathing of the cells. Without these nutrients, the skin tends to get dry, with no elasticity and ages faster. Making a mask of this clay is great for reducing the lines of expression.
Pink clay
Pink clay is the mixture of white and red clay. Because it's softer, pink clay is indicated for sensitive and delicate skins. It has disinfectant, healing and softening action. The pink clay is rich in iron, and very good for the application of facial, body and capillary mask.
While absorbing toxins and excess oil, it provides the minerals needed to restore the vigor and natural shine of your skin and hair, making them silky and supple.
Gray Clay
Gray clay is indicated for oily and blemished skin.
Due to the titanium present in its composition, it combats pimples, blackheads and is an excellent exfoliant. Gray clay is a natural antioxidant, slowing the aging of the skin. It regulates capillary seborrhea, absorbs solar radiation, is bleaching blemishes and can help in weight reduction and measurements.
Black clay
Black clay is the noblest of all, can also be found as volcanic mud. It's widely used for detoxification of the skin, mainly oily skins.
It has anti-inflammatory, anti-arthrosic, absorbent and anti-stress action. Due to the high content of aluminum and silicon and low percentage of iron, it can be used both for cosmetics and for treatments of diseases. It's an excellent rejuvenating agent.
How to use clay
- Important: Before applying, the skin should be clean and without makeup.
- Take one tablespoon of powdered clay (they are easier to find in green and white).
- Add mineral water or chamomile tea (temperature can be lukewarm) until you get a thick pasty consistency.
- Apply to the face, avoiding the region of the eyes and lips. If you use green clay, you will feel the skin pulling and pinching: this is normal. Remove with water once it has dried. You will notice that the skin turned red once the clay activates the circulation.
- Wipe the face gently and don't use creams or makeup in the next two hours.

Good article giving an overview of the use of clay. One little suggestion, when you wash it away you need to fill the sink with water, and pull the plug. The sudden flush of water will clear the bend in the U tube. Otherwise the clay will set hard blocking the sink, and being almost impossible to remove without taking apart the U bend.
