Masks on the facades of buildings
More than 19 thousand masks are placed on the walls of houses in St. Petersburg. Such masks are perceived as a familiar decorative element. It was customary to decorate the facades of buildings with masks in the late 18th and early and mid 19th centuries. Sometimes there are masks of characters of ancient mythology: Poseidon, Zeus, Hera, Medusa, Pan and others. But unnamed beautiful female faces can be found more often.

19,000 is a lot of masks
Unless specifically considered, it is difficult to imagine that there are so many masks. I learned this figure from the directory.
I guess there is no directory of all the masks. :-)
All masks to consider and describe would be an impossible task :)
I'm intrested too, where is this figure originated from. not sure what is 'directory'?.. the folder with files on your PC?.. or what.
very lovely shots!
