The Iranian authorities plan to float a tender for the creation of a national cryptocurrency. The People’s Bank of China did also state that the country needs a digital currency of its own. In the meantime, the Saudi central bank is working with the United Arab Emirates central bank to issue a digital currency that would be accepted in cross-border transactions between the two countries.
None of these plans, however, have succeeded. The only country that did manage to issue a national cryptocurrency is Venezuela with its El Petro.
