On the southernmost beach of europe
Οn the island of Crete is the southernmost beach of Europe (the only exception is the small island of Gavdos). Is located near the village Kali Limenes (in greek means good ports beacause the waters are usually calm). It’s 75 km southwest of Heraklion and constitute the largest seaside village of Asterousia Mountains. It is one of the few seaside areas of Asterousia where you can reach via an asphalt road.

In the following maps of google earth you can see where the beach is located.
The road is dangerously narrow and has many sharp turns as you can see below, but it's worth it.

As soon as you arrive at Kali Limenes, you will see oil reservoirs located opposite the settlement. Supply ships that travel to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

These facilities cause visual pollution, but fortunately the area's sea remains crystal clear. Τhe sea at Kali Limenes is almost always calm and exudes an airy serenity.
Beach as we watch to the left. Near the coast, at depth 10 meters, there is wreck.

It is the largest beach in the area with grayish chalice and dark, deep and cold waters. Generally the waters on the beaches of north Crete are colder from those on south, probably because the depthes are bigger and throw currents cold water from deeper layers come to upper.
