Ultra capacitor storage systems are on the horizon

in #batteries8 years ago

From ancient days when batteries may have been made from a clay jug, an electrode and some acidic liquid we are now approaching a very exciting and wondrous area full of possibilities and potential. Fast foward a few thousand years and humans are playing with carbon nanotubes and ULTRA capacitors. Quite a run, eh? While they will never replace the handy batteries that Elon Musk and others are dishing out they very well may have an integral role to play. They can play the role of Mr. green friend to common batteries, extending their life and giving boosts of power when needed, then refilling their tanks quickly. Not only that, but the battery in this laptop im using mag be good for about 1200 - 1400 charge cycles, deteriorating over time after that. UC's can shrug off that dilemma with tens over 10,000 charge cycles before they feel the burn. This means less material cost, less chemical overflow, cheaper AND less environmental impact and could, COULD, mean a better future.
Thanks, love y'all.
