HIGHLIGHTS: EuroLeague round up (week 8, Friday)
Nicolo Melli and Jan Vesely made it a memorable night for the reigning EuroLeague champions as they overcame CSKA Moscow after a period of overtime.
Vesely scored a career-high 31 points off 14/19 shooting and Melli’s tip-in as time expired in overtime lifted Fenerbahce to a dramatic 95-93 win in the Russian capital.
Fenerbahce improved to 5-3, while CSKA drops to 6-2.
It marked the third time in their last four meetings that these two sides went into overtime, and the second time in a row that the champions have defeated the Muscovites in Russia after overtime, this time, snapping CSKA’s 14-game home winning streak in the process.
Barcelona were able to keep their double-digit lead this time as they beat rivals Valencia 89-71 at Palau Blaugrana. Both teams now have a 3-5 records, with Valencia losing its fourth game.
Pierre Oriola had 14 points for the winners.
Brose Bamberg’s heroics against Barcelona in the last round could not be repeated as they went down 71-62 to Olimpia Milano.
Bamberg however led for almost all of the first three quarters and extended their margin to 57-46 in the fourth.
But Lithuanian Mantas Kalnietis inspired a 19-0 run to bring Milan all the way back to a valuable victory. Curtis Jerrells had 12 points.
Olympiacos led from the outset and never looked back as they hammered Crvena Zvezda 85-59 in Piraeus.
The Reds improved its record to 6-2, level with leaders CSKA Moscow. Red Star fell to 2-6 with its fourth straight defeat.
Nikola Milutinov paced the winners from the start and finished with a double-double of 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
