This is awesome news for the Thunder as they don’t have to worry about losing everything this offseason to the Lakers (as has been widely speculated) Westbrook is a supreme talent in my opinion and this benefits both parties. Maybe this also helps them keep Paul George and stalls Melo from opting out giving them an extra year to gel some more.
Thoughts?
Excited for the new NBA Season, another superteam in OKC hope they can challenge Golden State, that would be a great match up. Westbrook deserves every dollar of the extension with the way he played last season. MVP!
He will help in attracting stars to Oklahoma to play with him. I think Paul George will still head to L.A. after this season since it's been what he's wanted to do for the longest time. Carmelo might resign though depending on how well Thunder do this season. I think Thunder and Cavs are the teams with the best chance to upset the GSW. Spurs and Rockets are good but they don't have the depth required IMO.
I agree George may very well head out but guys take notice when guys like Russell stay in a market like OKC. Melo may just opt in and then they can replace George with a nice free agent.
Russ is a fighter. I love this contract extension and his loyalty to OKC. Be ready for Russ to have an even better season than last year. Plus he will be making a ton of money, Always nice.
He’s definitely a different kind of guy and I enjoy it greatly. He’s sticking to his OKC guns and his passion for the game shows in EVERY play. I would love to play with a guy that has his drive and motor.
