RE: Will the cost of unconditional basic income be borne on the shoulders of the American middle class?

in #basicincome7 years ago

When automation starts replacing more and more jobs, even the so called professional ones the diminishing middle class will embrace unconditional basic income!

Sort:

If people were to examine the very high tax on the rich (85%-90%) and the corresponding boom periods of last century along with the corresponding long drawn out bust periods for tax breaks on the rich there wouldn't be much discussion over fairness or least "get a job" rhetoric which is what sentiments most who argue about fairness.

None of that will matter when accountants, programmers, title agents, teachers, etc,etc lose their jobs to automation/robots. People will have to adjust to a world without Jobs and rethink the way things get done. Instead of drudgery people can focus on making things better for humanity.

It sounds like you're talking about The Venus Project. That just so happens to be one direction we could presently move towards, if we wanted it as a "whole community".
