Aaron Judge – Destined for greatness

Aaron Judge was born in Linden California in 1992; from a very young age, his natural sporting ability was apparent. He played baseball, basketball, and football in high school and excelled at them all! He was also a freshman All-American in college, led his team in home runs and was named All-Mountain West Conference in all three seasons that he played college baseball.

Judge has made the transition to Major League Baseball and is currently regarded as one of the best players in the league, even though he is still a rookie. Judge also has the added disadvantage of being 6 feet, 7 inches in a game that is generally not very kind to players with such huge frames. But why is he regarded as being destined for greatness? And is it too early in his career to make such a call?

Aaron Judge has accumulated some staggering stats in his limited time playing Major League Baseball. Let’s look at the numbers; he hit a home run in his first 2 games in the MLB, he is only the second person in Yankees history to do so; he is tied for the rookie record for most home runs in a month, he had 10 home runs in April; Judge is the youngest player to hit 13 home runs in the first 26 games of an MLB season; he was named rookie of the month for the consecutive months of April and May; he has the record for the hardest hit at a speed of 121 mph, and he has the longest home run of 495 feet. In addition to these accomplishments, Judge is expected to shatter a few more records by the end of the season.

He is currently first all-time among rookies for slugging percentage with a mark of.670 so far in the season, the record is currently held by his Yankee teammate Gary Sanchez who set the mark of .657 last season. He will surpass this mark if he continues on his current trajectory. With 22 home runs so far in the season, Judge is also on a path to eclipse the rookie record of 49 currently held by Mark McGwire, he is expected to finish with 51 home runs for the season.
