You Get One At Bat
This might not be true in baseball, but it could be. At any given time something can happen in your life to ruin or even end your career and you never ever know when that could happen.
Even more importantly, in life we each get just one at bat. Each of us only gets one life to live, and one career to build in this game as a ball player. Each day that goes by is an opportunity to get better or to get worse. Each of us has to choose what we want to do with that day. Every single decision we make is a decision to get better, or to get worse.
On a micro scale, our decisions to eat or not eat, what to eat, when to sleep, when to work out and how to do it...all of it interacts together to create results or reduced performance.
On the macro side, we each get one career to play within and the clock is ticking for everyone. Whether you are currently in little league, high school, travel ball, college baseball, or if you are one of the chosen few to sign a professional contract, each career is a ticking bomb before someone decides that your time is done.
So make wise decisions, make the most of the time you have, don't create set backs for yourself and always look for ways to improve. Leave a legacy of excellence in whatever you do, and always give 110% each day. Leave it all on the field and be tactical about each and every move.
Have no regrets, and you will be able to sleep well at night knowing you gave all you had. That's all a coach can expect.
