The report of THE UN reveals holes in global cybersecurity

in #banking7 years ago

The top ten countries in the world in terms of cybersecurity performance have been nice of what you expect for several reasons. The United States is a country that believes it is the best and, therefore, everyone wants what it has, of course it will enhance security. Countries like Oman and Singapore, where state intervention is likely to be high, are not surprising too. Mauritius is perhaps surprising, but it is so small, so unlikely to be attacked, it must be one of the simplest jobs worldwide to secure.

More worryingly, there are a few countries that are much lower than boys. Germany, for instance comes in at 24 globally , considering its approach to data protection legislation or Germany's perception of technology, it is weak. China ranked as low as 33 and Spain 54. These are countries that are expected to have a stronger influence in the security world, but the survey generally shows the difference between Barking and bite.

A final point worthy of note is perhaps the lack of government action; The data would suggest that the press claims made by politicians about the importance of security in the digital world are nothing but sound bits. Only 38% of countries have a published cybersecurity strategy and only 11% have a dedicated autonomous strategy. 12% have a cybersecurity strategy under development. These numbers are simply not high enough.

We're all going to be surprised, but we should not be. Security is improving, but it is still largely ignored.
