DEMOCRACY

There is a country in Africa which is said to practice democracy. In high school my teacher thought me that democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people. Yes! In this country the government is ran by the people but is it actually for the people? A country where some states like the one I find myself can owe her people for about 10 months and still be campaigning for a 2nd tenure to rule the people, and the people out of hunger and illiteracy when given some peanuts still exercise their franchise supporting these set of inconsiderate rulers who lack conscience. In this country many people live on below $2 a day, many can't afford to care for their health not to talk of education. A country where most of the government owned facilities are not working, the hospitals, schools and research institutes are on strike simply because they are not been paid. A country where their is almost no hope for the youth. A country where university graduates turn to tricycle riders jxt to survive. A country where the unemployment rate is exponentially on the increase. Everyday I wake up and ask myself is their still hope and a tiny voice inside of me says YES
