Unfortunate Events of Mr. Grey : E01 - Water Leaks
One day, as usual, after i arrived at home from work, i will be driving Mr. Grey to fetch my son at school ang also my wife at her mother's house.
As i entered inside my car, i was shocked to witness this.
Yes, the floor at the left passenger side became a mini pool. and yes, it happened after raining time.
At first, i just drove to pickup my wife and kids and drove back home. After that, i scoop the water out using a plastic container and dry using a towel. And i just let it air dry overnight. (if only i knew how to take put the carpet to better air dry it)
After a day or two. the water leaks happened again. I realised i need to take quick action because now is time time of the Northeast monsoon, where in Malaysia should be expecting heavy rains, almost every day.
As usual, i will consult with my dear friend @davidke20. One thing what could the the culprit is the door weather sheet.
(This picture was taken in 2016 when just try to DIY open the door panel, trying to diagnose the actuator locking problem)
The picture above is the actual look inside the door and the plastic thing is the weather sheet, to prevent water from entering the cabin.
This the the first one i suspected because prevoiusly i lurked into Proton Persona thread in Lowyat.net and the weather sheet was the common problem regarding water leaks inside the cabin.
The other suspect would be the door seals
(seems worn out)
or could be the windscreen rubbers
@davidke20 also told me about aircond hose suspect.
As usual, i went to my trusted workshop, Autohaus KL for further checking and repair. (https://www.facebook.com/autohausKL/)
Once arrived there, i told them the whole story and they quickly start to work on Mr. Grey.
At first, they tested the aircond in search for possible leaks from the aircond
Then, They start doing the rain simulation by 1 person pouring water at the left side of Mr. Grey, and 1 person be inside the car to inspect for the water leaks.
They pour the water from the front until the back, at the windscreen, the door windscreen, door, roof etc.
Within minutes, they witnessed the water quickly pouring inside the cabin through the air vent under the dashboard.
The mechanics said that there a 2 possible cause of the water leaks, either the cowl drain, or maybe the air vent problem. But they need time to troubleshoot becuse maybe they need further inspection by removing the dashboard before can gave final conclusion.
So i left Mr. Grey to Autohaus KL, walk back to my house to take my mtorocycle and rode to work.
At around 2pm, the mechanic called me and said the culprit was the cowl drain, suspected been clogged with rubbish from trees (yes, i parked in open space and most of the time i parked near and also under the trees). Luckyfor my as the labour charge only rm40, if not, the labour charges for only removing the dashboard usually around rm200-250 labour charge exclude repair works.
(the cowl drain looks like under the hood)
So, after office hours, i went back to Autohaus KL to collect Mr. Grey. Luckily i able to get back Mr. Grey before i fetched my family as usual as the workshop only closed at 7pm.
i always remember my sifu @davidke20 always say, janji kereta sihat (as long as car in good shape) so i treat this problem as normal thing in life.
Thank you for reading, and as always, please upvote and resteem!
Good one. Support and continue to share with us in #automotive . Will be nicer to have pictures of the repair work. What? Why? When? Who? How to repair will be nicer. @nelkeljdm , worth an upvote for this one?

Haha I remember my brand new Proton Persona was leaking water from the A-pillar within 1 year of ownership. Good times! haha.
