Social Media Mistakes

in #audience6 years ago

Gaining new followers on social media is something that may seem easy, but takes a tremendous amount of effort. It can become especially difficult when you’re managing a variety of platforms. If you find that you’re losing followers and aren’t exactly sure why, make sure you’re not making any of these social media mistakes:

You’re not varying your content

Though you want to have a defined niche, you don’t want to sound like a broken record. If you’re posting the same kinds of photos, videos or captions over and over again, people are going to get tired of it. With so many social media accounts in existence, you want to find a way to stand out against the noise. Make sure you’re posting about a variety of topics in a variety of ways. This way, your followers are less likely to get bored and will stay engaging with your content.

You’re not showing enough personality

Real people follow real people. Sound obvious? It’s not. Think about the accounts you follow on. Why do you follow them? Chances are, it’s because of the way they share their story and give information that’s valuable to you. And they do it in a way that’s both unique and engaging.

Try to show more personality in your posts. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun and mix things up. If you’re shy, this can be incredibly tough. But these days, people are using social media to create a community, and you’re only going to be able to do this if you really put yourself out there. Be who you are, and the right following will stick with you.

You’re not posting enough

If you want to gain new followers, you can’t fall off the face of the earth. I know, it can be tempting, but in order to grow your brand, you need to have a consistent posting schedule. This can be hard when you’re in charge of various accounts.

If you need advice on how to keep it all together, look no further. Those who grow their following seemingly overnight are the ones that post consistently and frequently. No, you don’t need to post every single day to gain followers, but you do need to post multiple times a week.

Scheduling your content ahead of time can be super helpful when doing this, if you find yourself forgetting to post. I recommend both Hootsuite and Sprout Social. These platforms will allow you to schedule your posts, so that you won’t have to worry about them when things get busy.

You’re not engaging with users

Simply posting on social media is never enough. In order to truly be successful, you need to be interacting with other accounts, and not just those who follow you. This means liking other posts, commenting on accounts similar to yours and engaging with users in your target audience.

To me, this is one of the most fun parts about social media. It’s a place where you can get to know others and show them what you have to offer. Remember to always use positive language when interacting with other accounts. You want to look professional while still showing off your personality.

You’re not consistent with your branding

If you’re trying to develop your brand, it needs to be consistent across all platforms. I’m talking the same color scheme, same tone of voice and same overall feel. You should absolutely be using a variety of content, but it should all fall under your brand.

Some people are casual and personal on one platform, but are too robotic on another. Work on determining what your voice will be and how you want to present yourself on social media. Once you figure this out, it’ll be a lot easier to post consistently.

You’re not using specific features

Each social media platform has different features that you should be taking advantage of. Instagram stories, Facebook ads and Twitter threads, just to name a few. Social media is a place to be creative, and you’ll want to make sure you’re familiar with what each platform has to offer. Do some research and figure out what tools would work best for promoting your content and reaching new users.

You’re not analyzing your posts

Today’s ever-changing digital world can make it hard to determine what types of content will resonate best with your audience. But there’s no better way to figure it out than to analyze the data that comes with each of your posts. All social media platforms, especially for business profiles, have analytics built in, making it easier than ever to see what your most popular content is.

Platforms such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Google Analytics also offer insight into metrics such as reach, engagement and impressions. Do some research and figure out what’s working and what’s not when it comes to each of your social media pages.

You’re doing too much

Yes, there is such a thing as doing too much on social media. At the end of the day, you might not need to have accounts on every social media platform. Dig deep into your brand and your target audience. Which platforms do they live on? Knowing the demographics of your audience can help you determine where the best place to reach them is.

Posting too often, using too many hashtags and bombarding each platform with content could be your downfall. Take a step back and think about what’s going to work best for your brand.

Sometimes, even if you’re not doing these things, you’re still going to lose followers. And that’s okay. Just focus on your goals and understanding how exactly social media can help you reach them. Having trouble figuring it out? I’ll do the work for you!

Great choice of topic @coolpeopleifb

Gaining new followers on social media is something that may seem easy

Indeed it may seem to be easy but as you said: it's harder than we expect. Easy days of doing it are long over. Now we're content creators on every bloody corner. And everyone want to be in the center of attention.

Getting this attention and trust is even harder.

You’re not showing enough personality

you nailed it! not only personality matters. This personality need to be somehow "attached" to your audience. They need to be emotionally involved and see you as one of them.

You’re not posting enough

Oh, this is actually very common mistake. People do post TO MUCH. Perhaps posting everyday something on instagram where your followers will give you 2 seconds of your time is great solution. But if you actually create content which require viewer time then 1 post a day is suicide.

Try 1 post on Steemit every day. Not only quality will be low but you will start being ignored very quickly. It's hard to expect that our followers would give us that much attention getting pretty much NOTHING in return.

Yes, I really mean it. They most of the time receive nothing in return and are giving their own time. On Steemit one post a week is maximum that I would recommend. Rest of the time it's best to spent commenting other people posts and creating engagement with them.

Overall interesting post :)

Again, great read
Yours
Piotr
