The Life of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk #4
On the morning of 25 April 1915, the British troops, the French troops and the ANZAK corps launched the first extraction movement in Arıburnu, Seddülbahir and on the coast of Kumkale. The enemy could not be stopped at the Kumkale coast. The landing on Seddülbahir was stopped by the fierce fire of the coastal artillery and the attack by the Ottoman Turkish forces when British troops and the ANZAK corps of Arıburnu were found off the coast of Mustafa Kemal. When the extraction from the shores of Arıburnu began, Mustafa Kemals quickly led the forces of Bigali Conkbayiri'di. British forces that moved from Arıburnu to Conkbayırı were defeated on that day by Mustafa Kemal's 19th Division attack and had to retreat.
In the attack on the Conkbayiri, the Turkish soldier fought an unprecedented faith and courage with the greatest heroic scenes in history. Commander Mustafa Kemal added the following sentences to the order he gave to the commanders: "I order you not to attack, I order you to face death. And as long as we don't die, they won't get ahead."
This violent expulsion, which began on 25 April 1915, was pushed to the coast by the Prussian troops, but the enemy remained steadfast until 27 April 1915.There were violent clashes with the British who wanted to advance. However, every enemy attack failed in the face of the heroic defence of the Turkish soldier.
Mustafa Kemal was promoted to colonel on 1 June 1915 for his outstanding achievements on the Dardanelles front. Although the enemy could not succeed at Çanakkale, he was determined to make a new withdrawal.
In order to realize the idea, the Turkish armed forces in the provinces of Arillburnu, Seddülbahir and Kumkale, which had formed the first lines of resistance, first had to be dismantled. To this end, the British withdrew from Arıburnu on 6 August 1915, from the Anafartalar on 7 August 1915, and then attacked back with artillery. These forces led to violent clashes between the 19th Division forces under the command of Mustafa Kemal. The situation became critical when the enemy attack spread to a broad front.
Colonel Mustafa Kemal was brought to the command of the Anafartalar group on the night of 8 August 1915 by the order of the commander of the 5th Army, Marshal Liman von Sanders. Mustafa Kemal, who took command at midnight, pushed the advancing British troops back to the coast, where they were crushed by an attack on the morning of 9 August 1915.
In the evening of the same day, Mustafa Kemal moved to the Conkbayiri region, where he attacked the troops on 10 August 1915. As a result of this attack, bayonet wars, which developed in the form of the enemy within four hours, were completely taken away by Conkbayiri. Thus the Anafartalar region was dominated by the Turks.
Mustafa Kemal himself was on the firing line during the attacks of 9 and 10 August, as on 25 April 1915.
He gave orders from the line of fire and this fact that he was on the front was very motivating for the soldiers and the officers. A shell splinter that hit the watch in Mustafa Kemal's breast pocket saved him from certain death. His courage, determination and mastery during these battles made him famous both inside and outside the country.
The fact with the clock, and the heroic enthusiasm as well as his determination to fight and repress the enemy with all his might made Mustafa Kemal as the "hero of Anafarta".
The British, who were unable to make any progress due to months of pushing back and fighting, withdrew from Çanakkale with their supporters at the end of December 1915. This prevented their plan to march through Dardanella Street to occupy Istanbul at the end. But also the dream of the British, who wanted to connect with Russia in Marmara and the Black Sea, was destroyed.
All these events influenced the flow of the First World War and changed the course of world history.
In these wars the British undoubtedly had more men than the Turks, but they also had a clear advantage in terms of weapons and equipment, but the point they had forgotten was the heroism of the Turkish soldier and the Mustafa Kemal factor that led this heroism.
Some people are legend, he is indeed among them.
Keep flourishing buddy!
