Moon Sides 🔭
Why do we see only one side of the Moon?
This collage I made of old photos I took using phone camera - Nokia N8 and Samsung J5 and telescope.
They are from different phases just to show how it always got the same side, called the near side.
For the observer from the Earth is seems the Moon is not spinning, but actually it does.
The time needed for one spin on its axes is almost the same as to orbit around the Earth. Earth gravity forced the Moon to synchronize the spin with its orbit. The so called far side of the Moon never been seen from Earth. However the Chinese spacecraft landed for the first time on the far side recently.
Last night I took some photos using both the phone camera and the MikrOcular camera and the telescope. I wished to make some comparison between both cameras.
Here are the photos with the phone camera.
And a close-up.
Next photos are made with MikrOcular camera. They all are close-ups.
There is a difference in the quality between both cameras. However I made simple edits with Photoshop Express.
I hope you enjoyed seeing closer the Moon. Any comments are much appreciated.

Really cool shots! 😎
Do you have your own telescope?

Thank you. :-)
Yes, I have a telescope. It is a reflector scope.
Wow, I think it is very exciting!
Cheers :)
Love looking at the moon and stars when I'm out of the city. You're lucky to have such a clean view of the moon.

Despite the light pollution I can see clear the Moon. I am watching it from home.

Amazing shots Neli!!!
Thank you!!!!!! 😀❤🌛
Glad you like them!
Very impressive moon pictures! And all of this with a telescope and a phone. I am wordless! :)
Thank you. :-)
The first photos are made with phone camera and telescope. I learned to keep my hands steady when I attach the phone to the eyepiece. :-) For the last four I used MikrOcular camera for the telescope. It should give better quality of the photos.
It is impressive anyways. How much did it cost, by curiosity?
Being bargain hunter I bought the telescope for half price - €250. It is 6"reflector. The camera cost is €59.
Of course I wish better scope and camera now. 😀
Astronomy and astrophotography is an expensive hobby. I try to do it with what I could afford at the time being.
Wow, that is a much less than what I was expecting. I could definitely put that on something to consider for my son in the future (we are leaving far from any city so that the luminous pollution is low around here :) Thanks for the information!
That is great! I live in a city and with all the light pollution I can see Jupiter and its four moons, the rings of Saturn. With low pollution you can see much more and better than me. I hope your son will be interested in astronomy, it is so fascinating.
He is already interesting in science in general. But he is basically surrounded by science since he was born :D
