Tycho's Eye

Tycho Brache was a Danish nobleman who was born on the 14 of December, 1546 and died at the age of 54 on the 24 of October, 1601. During Tycho's life he received a comprehensive education and was heir to several of Denmark's principal noble families. He took an interest in astronomy and worked to combine what he saw as the philosophical benefits of the Ptolemaic system and the geometrical benefits of the Copernican system into his own model of the universe, the Tychonic system. This allowed him to be able to see the moon as it really was. Circling around the earth and the earth orbiting the sun. Later on in life, King Frederick II granted Tycho an estate on the island of Hve and the funding to build Uraniborg, an early research institute, where he built large astronomical instruments. Tycho also built an observatory at Benátky nad Jizerou. There, from 1600 until his death in 1601, he was assisted by Johannes Kepler. Ordinary binoculars can be used to see the crater named after this astronomer. Tycho crater is near the lower edge of the moon. The crater has long white rays coming from it and can be seen running out halfway across the moon. The white rays are believed to be material thrown out from impact of the large meteor or comet.
