Why Take Astrology Seriously? -- Oh, the things Astrology can do for you!

It's more than a newspaper fun-feature.

Astrology provides an interesting road-map that can help you "decode" some of the mysteries of your life, your relationships, other people, your individual past, your unfolding future, and your personal destiny. If you look at that list carefully, you'll see a tremendous wealth of material available through this often abused and misunderstood occult discipline.

So let's start here ... with some statements about your horoscope and why it's important. Your horoscope is a map of the sky, frozen in time at the moment of your birth. Astrology uses that map to describe your character.

  • If you (or someone knowledgeable) can read it properly, your horoscope tells you the "raw materials" you have to work with, the qualities and characteristics of personal energy you are using to express who you are. It tells you how you can be who you need to be, and how you can do what you came here to do.

It's a path to self-understanding.

  • Your horoscope can describe your talents, your strengths, your hang-ups, your challenges, your Karmic gifts, and your Karmic obligations. It can literally tell you who you were meant to be before life, society, and other factors got hold of you and possibly corrupted the picture so that you've had to spend a great deal of time and effort trying to get back on track.

  • The opportunity to face the conditions of your life armed with that knowledge is indispensable. If, as Socrates said, the unexamined life is not worth living, Astrology is where you get a jump start on the knowledge you need to have about yourself and the curriculum you need to master to make progress on your soul's unfolding path with the time and energy you spend here.

It's an aid in understanding your relationships.

  • If you know Astrology well enough to read your own chart, it's a cinch you can read the chart of another person. This is not just a benefit for learning more about the people in your close relationships. Looking at the charts of historical figures, famous people you admire, or people making news for both great and terrible reasons can offer you an extraordinary new dimension of understanding in human psychology.

  • Astrology can help you compare your chart (and therefore your character, needs, and potential) with those of another person or an important event in your life -- such as a marriage, a job, a relocation, an investment, an accident, even a theoretical event -- such as a pending decision. This can help you understand the dynamics of your relationship, what you provide for one another and the difficulties and challenges you face in your association.

It can help you look at both the past and the future.

  • Astrology can especially help you examine your relationship between you and your parents, between your parents themselves, between your siblings and your parents, and between you and your partner. (You can learn more about why you had such an easy or difficult time with one of your parents while one of your siblings had just the opposite experience.)

  • Astrology will help show upcoming experiences, the themes that will be emphasized in your immediate future, and the progress of major life trends and lessons. It can help you both take advantage of the beneficial energies that arrive and understand (and cope more wisely with) the challenges contained in every life. It can also help you examine your past and gain insight into what "life was asking of you" at certain times ... both happy and painful.

It will tell you all kinds of things about yourself ...

  • Astrology will let you take one part of your life and examine in great detail what you have to work with and what you need to have for "best results." You can see what kind of job you are suited for and the best conditions for the work you were built to do.

  • You can see what kind of parent you are to each of your children. (You're different with every one of them.) You can see what kind of partner you're looking for as a spouse. (Which, believe it or not, is different from the kind of romantic lover you want.)

... things you've always wondered.

  • You can see how you handle money and what your best income potentials are. Astrology can tell you volumes about all this and more.

  • If you follow it far enough, you can also learn your Karma through your horoscope -- the gifts you brought to develop, the commitments you accepted, the challenges you are trying to solve, the weaknesses you are working to fortify and turn into assets.

I know of no other human science that can do this so thoroughly, so consistently, so accurately, and with such logic to its information. When you understand the value Astrology can provide in all these areas, you'll view the nonsensical "daily horoscopes" that so corrupt and mock its wisdom with the contempt they so richly deserve.

Learn to use Astrology for yourself!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, you'll get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff.

Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free," and some are so awful and confusing even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that, your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there's lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.

Agreed... dismissing it as superstition is quite limited... I found my star chart can give very valuable insight and guidance... It IS actually a type of physics, just a higher caliber than most humans can grasp at the moment...
Like with most things, it can be taken too dogmatically also... Moderation and discernment must still be applied :)

Interesting that you say "it IS actually a type of physics." I hadn't thought of it that way -- or in exactly those words before, but I think you're right. There is something going on with Astrology and other mystical arts that even those who practice them don't understand clearly. Even among ourselves we can't define why these things work in ways that are sensible and defensible, we just know they do! Because we can apply them to our lives and see them in action. We can work with the accumulated wisdom and gain something that has value in how we perceive and manage our experiences.

On the frontiers of science, in many different fields, biologists, chemists and physicists, etc., make discoveries of things we as a species didn't know and couldn't explain before. In theoretical physics especially, different thinkers are proving that "reality" isn't at all what we have assumed it was -- for centuries.

I have believed for years that eventually the ideas of scientists and mystics will meet "coming around the corner" ... and they will realize they have all been studying and trying to explain and understand the same things -- just using different means to explore it and different language to describe it. (I hope I'm making sense myself in writing this reply!!) I see more and more evidence of that as time goes by.

Right now "science" has the upper hand in terms of formal education, cultural respect, research opportunities and financial rewards because it is so "left brain" in its orientation -- and those qualities of rationality, logic, objectivity and dealing in "cold hard facts" are considered superior to anything the very different talents of the right brain can offer.

But that is changing ... because as scientists get more and more "out there" in their pursuit of knowledge, they find themselves in the same baffling situations and "weirdness" mystics have know about ... practically forever. And the more we are able to work together to understand the totality of what's really going on -- rather than dismissing some attempts as backward, silly, superstitious and not worth considering, the quicker we may all make progress ... and comprehend more completely the many and miraculous components of the human experience.

(Sorry to make this so long. For me, thinking and writing are often two sides of the same process ... and when I pick up my keyboard, things get out of hand!!)

I wrote an essay years ago talking about how studying the mystical arts will change the way you think about everything. It will change you. It will change how you approach your entire life. If I can dig it out, I may post it here -- so you and I and others can declare "we are not crazy ... and we are not alone." It starts with a willingness (and ability) to think differently.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I enjoyed this. (I get a kick out of my own writing. You may learn -- as my husband has -- don't get me started!!)

@enchantedspirit -- Great to see such an enthusiastic astrology lover. I'm a lot into Indian and Chinese astrology. I've recently read a great book by Indian philosopher A. Dalela, called Mystic Universe. It's mostly about Vedic cosmology but the last chapter is about astrology. I think you would love it. Here is a summary of the astrology chapter from the book's description:

"Chapter 12: Principles of Vedic Astrology

Vedic astrology is based on a Vedic cosmology, although most modern practitioners of astrology aren’t aware of this fact. The planets don’t exert a gravitational force, but partake in conceptual interactions that influence different parts of our life. This chapter discusses the influences of different planets, and the relation to Sāńkhya. Common astrological concepts such as “houses”, “divisional charts”, and the daśā system are also developed based on Sāńkhya. The chapter describes how the different living experiences are not physical entities, but different perspectives on a cosmic situation.

WOW!! Thank you so much for recommending this!! This sentence in particular: "The planets don’t exert a gravitational force, but partake in conceptual interactions that influence different parts of our life." is exactly the conclusion I have come to over the years. The planets themselves aren't doing anything to you. But they are part of some greater unity we have yet to define or fully understand ... that is real, is valid, is predictable and deserves exploration.

This post -- Astrology -- Working with What Works ... Until something better comes along -- addresses that very thing. (One of my images in that essay is now broken. It wasn't when I posted it ... and I've seen several essays here and elsewhere showing the same problem. Images that were fine when we posted them have somehow gotten corrupted in the meantime. I am such a perfectionist about my work it really bothers me that I can't try to fix it -- because it was right in the beginning! Anyway ... that's neither here nor there regarding this reply. It's just such a relief to see another writer agreeing with my assertion. TYVM!)

I haven't read or studied much about Chinese or Vedic astrology. But they are "on my list!!" -- if you know what I mean. It sounds from what you've pointed out that they -- and this book -- should get pushed up a little higher!! (Somewhere in all this philosophical mystery, I want to find out how to be triplets! I could easily fill up three complete lives, all by myself. GOD, I wish I could buy the time so many people waste!!)

Thank you so much for your comment, your information, and for dropping by the blog. Sometimes discovering each other is the hardest part of beginning a conversation. Have a terrific week-end!

Actually the secrete behind our life is knowledge. This makes the saying goes ''knowledge is power". I have a personal astrologer called Jenna, her predictions, timing and events are accurate. Before i even think of occult, i asked myself; where from this knowledge? If astral chat analysis can predict accurately, then men needs to learn more. All men can not do is giving life. But your maker has already bless you with life. As you have been bless with life, what next? Explore yourself in all grounds. My thumbs up for astrology.
