If an asteroid should approach the Earth on a collision course with enough mass to destroy humanity as a consequence of impact, perhaps no effort should be made to divert it from its trajectory.

If the only difference between one of the best governments that have ever existed and some criminal biker gang is that the former has vastly more sophisticated tools of torture and mass murder, then perhaps there is no hope. This is what you expect from the likes of Russia or China. Or North Korea.
