The Hebrew art

in #artzone7 years ago

Within the history of art we find various types of art with a great antiquity among them some that stand out can be ancient art or rock art, Persian art, among many others. One of those ancient art styles is Hebrew art as it belonged to a very ancient people.

Hebrew art is an artistic current that originated with the Hebrews in the Levant of the Mediterranean (the Hebrews were a Semitic population who settled in the "near East"). Within this type of art, what stood out most was the Bible, since in its contents there were threads of the Torah. In addition, the Bible tells a large part of the history of the Hebrews and it is said that the original Hebrews settled in Mesopotamia and were nomads who used to live in tents and own various animals such as goats and sheep.

A large part of the literary works of Hebrew art were organized and kept according to the period of culmination of the monarchy. One of the most outstanding works was the proverbs, the psalms and especially the wedding songs of the Song of Songs, the Genesis, the Kings, the Exodus, the judges and other books classified as sapiential.

In addition, the Hebrews valued music, which was also used for the religious ceremonies that were held. One of the characteristic instruments of Hebrew music was the shofar, although other instruments were also used such as the sistros, lyres, zither, adufes or tambourines and flutes.

When we speak in a general way about Hebrew art we must mention that it was a geometric art style that had a tendency to abstraction. For this reason, only all artistic disciplines that had the need to create liturgical or ritual art were truly valued. Also within this style of art we have to highlight some things that were important in his period such as for example:

Sofar: As we mentioned earlier, the Sofar was an instrument used by the Hebrews in their music. The Sofar was a goat's male horn used in ritual ceremonies.
Painting and sculpture: within these disciplines could not be observed various works because the Hebrews were afraid that they might fall into idolatry and were also forbidden the representation of their god or any human figure.
Religion: The Hebrews believed in only one God and that God was linked to goodness and justice.
Population: civilizations were separated into different tribes, so they did not form a single state. However, when they were attacked, they were placed under the command of a chief.
Literature: within the literary works it can be observed that they were organized and very complicated during the stages of the culmination of the monarchy. The most outstanding works were the proverbs, the psalms and the wedding songs.
Tabernacle: A movable sanctuary was called a tabernacle. There were some instructions to be followed for the Tabernacle such as the garments or ritual objects that were reflected in the Exodus.
Temple of Solomon: The Temple of Solomon or Jerusalem was a shrine that belonged to the people of Israel. It was located in an area under the nickname of Moriah, in the city of Jerusalem where the Al - Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock are located today.
