Artstorm Contest #20 Day 7 - Underwater Dance

Hey everyone

Here is my entry for today in non-digital art!

As a child, I loved to imagine myself to be an underwater dancer. I would try to stay underwater for as long as I can, making gracious movements with my arms and legs, virtually dancing weightlessly. I used to be a bit of a clumsy clod, and I always felt free in the water. So when today's theme came up, I immediately thought of those days of freedom in the water.

How did I do it? Today, because I worked against time, I did not take pictures of my process, but what I did was the following:

I saturated a sheet of watercolour paper with the colours of the sea: mostly aqua, blue and a little bit of green. Then I quickly sketched my little ballerina. I was inspired by the masterful line drawings of dancers by Stanley Roseman (https://stanleyrosemandance.com/ondrawing.html). Then I added some rock salt crystals to depict the bubbles made by the ballerina. After that, I roughly coloured in the ballerina's dress floating in the water. I did not even feel like adding sea life, but something had to balance the dancer's graceful movement...

And because I just love to "dance, dance, wherever I may be...", I had to add the text out of Lord of the Dance.
