SKALAR is a large-scale art installtion by artist Christopher Bauder and musician Kangding Ray at Kraftwerk Berlin.

I came to Berlin to visit the installtion last weekend and I was blown away. The deep impact of light and sound on human perception is strong feelable in this installtion. The audiovisual show is like a trip to another world – visitors described their impressions as visions from other cosmic worlds or even as the contact with non-human life.

Skalar is technically an array of 65 kinetic mirrors, 90 moving lights and a multi-channel sound system – everything perfect synchronized with the help of TouchDesigner in the pitch-dark industrial space of Kraftwerk Berlin, which is the perfect environment for an installation like SKALAR. It's produced by WHITEvoid, Kraftwerk Berlin and CTM Festival. Supported by Kinetic Lights, Robe and Audi.

"SKALAR" is a central piece within light artist Christopher Bauder’s body of work, reflecting his deep fascination with light. Light and darkness as endless cycles of day and night define our perception of time and influence our emotions. In "SKALAR", light is treated as a solid material that can be sculpted and shaped to architectural dimensions, evoking abstract emotional associations. Intertwined with musician and composer Kangding Ray’s tireless exploration of textures, rhythm, and sound design, the silence of darkness is filled with iridescent formations of spatial light and sound.
