The EU Passes Article 13 – Its About to Get Messy!
The European Parliament has just voted in favour to pass the new EU Copyright Directive, Article 13.
The new directive will bring in sweeping reforms to how copyrighted content posted online is governed. Some say this directive is the end of the Internet as we know it as just about anything you share could be in breach of the new EU law.
YouTube has been actively calling attention to this new law over the past few months to try and have the proposal shutdown, but unfortunately their efforts failed.
SO WHAT EXACTLY IS ARTICLE 13?
Under the law, internet platforms will be liable for content that users upload, a burden that will fall heavily on some of the most popular online services.
“YouTube, Facebook and Google News are some of the internet household names that will be most directly affected by this legislation,” the European Parliament said in a statement.
The argument for the new EU Copyright Directive is to protect content creators hard work from being unfairly copied and shared, however in reality what we will see is a lot of filtered content all across the internet.
It will create mass confusion on what exactly comes under this new legislation and what doesn’t causing many to just play safe and avoid sharing potentially important information.

If your wondering how this type of legislation will be policed think blanket banning all content with any potential copyright infringement, plus all content which is shared by that user from there after. Because companies like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will be liable for Copyright infringement they will take no chances and simply have to be ruthless to survive.
Say goodbye to parody, say goodbye to independent journalists referring to current news events using video, imagery, or audio. This will create one hell of a mess for just about everyone who uses the internet.
