My Sybmission:

FunGal

Welcome to the CryptoZoo! A place inside your imaginatory gland where mythical creatures (like the FunGal here) thrive and populate the imaginatory glands of others through their compelling storytelling and the principle of "Whynotness".

Lets explore, shall we...

Here we have a cute FunGal - a rare humanoid fungi female from a crypto-race that is also known as Myconids. They gather the forest's wisdom (pretty much fun facts) and teach it only to those that can find them in their disguised form. All FunGals and FunGuys love the rain, and that is the only time when they come out to play, learn and socialize. To protect themselves, most Myconids naturally disguise themselves as poisonous mushrooms. But some species of Myconid release all their fun facts at one causing their tormentor to hallucinate and fall into a trance. Why? Pseudoscientists are still trying to determine that, but for now the principle of "Whynotness" seems to be the best explanation.

This is how Cryptozoology works: First a faint idea of a mythical creature appears in your mind. Then it starts to become more and more defined as you accept 'whynotness''. Here is an illustrated example of this process that I made using Photoshop.

Beware, you are now susceptible to a cryptozoology in your mind. You may experience the need to watch fantasy movies, read graphic novels, play D&D or Magic the Gathering games and draw mythical creatures.... Unfortunately the only temporary remedy against this condition is to turn your attention to unimaginative tasks, such as sorting your mail, doing your taxes or checking your mostly forgotten social media notifications outside of Steemit :)

Thank you all so much for reading my nonsense (I tried to keep it short), I hope you found it very pseudo-informative and most of all, fun. If you only looked at the images and didn't read, then I forgive you :)

Beautiful.

She might be a fun-gal but she doesn't have much-room in her head does she?

:P

:))) Thank you @Kate-M! not much-room at all, that's by she gets in so much truffle.

:P

Awesome! My vote isn't worth much so I played in your wallet instead.

OMG, @erodedthoughts! I'm just blown away by your generosity, thank you! This only can happen on steemit, and i want to do the same of someone I really support, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Also, I see that you love fantasy and vampires and all that dark matter, me too, so i'm following you, and hopefully we'll get to bounce some ideas in the future.

(^_^)

It is not often someones art work makes my jaw drop. Though I am having the experience more often now that I have found this place. I was very impressed and saddened the image was not created by me as it would make one hell of a sell-able poster or canvas print. That is the exact type of picture that would get to grace my walls. You should list it for sale somewhere see how it goes.

i would love to do that, though i feel that it needs a little more work before i can call it sellable - as i know the parts that i rushed through, to get the image ready for submission, and they look kinda half-assed :). But thank you for the idea, definitely possible! Also you have inspired me with your generosity: https://steemit.com/steemit/@ankapolo/cryptozoology-contest-or-sharing-the-award-with-my-favorite-entries

Beautuful work and I enjoyed seeing the process very much! Thank you participating to the contest.

Thank you so much @vachemorte!

Beautiful creation with a really nice story behind it. Can't believe you did this in Photoshop! I've been working with the application since version 3.0 (not CS3!) but I don't even have the patience to configure my brushes...

Thank you so much @Reinhard-Schmid! Wow PS3... I think the first time i came across PS was when it was version 6, and man, has it gotten better since! I used think that it was for editing photos, and then saw some amazing art online, and I had no idea that people made digital paintings using Photoshop. So my very fir CG art was on Photoshop using a mouse :P Now i have a tablet, and i cant separate from the stilus pen :) The magic is definitely all in the brushes!

To me the biggest step was, when they introduced layers. I don't remember if PS3 had that already, but I remember working without layers in freehand (vector) and it was a pain to mask everything..

I have a tablet too, but like I said... preparing the brushes is too much for me. I have a lot of patience with painting, but for some reason not for that :-b Only make very rough sketches and play with my compositions, as its easy to move things around and make changes..

Bravoo @ankapolo, it lookss great, professional, imaginative, great great illustration! And that drop on the mushroom, what a great touch:)

@Jungwatercolor, your kind feedback means a lot! Thank you so much!

You are welcome and I am just being honest :) Love to see good work and when someone puts effort in making it.

I tend to prefer the myconids that release all of their stored fun knowledge. 🍄
I Love this so much I’m going to upvote, follow, and resteem. I also have an entry in Art Explosion but I adore this one!

I keep trying to resteem it but keep getting an error.

Aww! thank you so much @stillwatersart for your kind feedback! I saw your submission too, its awesome! Looks like you had one of the psychedelic Myconids for breakfast :)

Perhaps long ago in a galaxy far far away...

Beautiful <3 I am also preparing something for the contest. Can't wait to share it :)

thank you @gabchik! and i'm looking forward to seeing your submission too!

Awesome, it's beautiful and I love the story that goes along with it! Thank you so much for the entry :)

Thank you so much @JuliaKPonsford! I love both fantasy and biology so the theme you chose for this contest was very inspiring! Once again thank you for being so engaging with the new artists (like myself and others) in the community!

she seem to be about to extract some magic power from that water drop, ooo nooo I've been affected by cryptozoology
such a cool design, and cute back story
I don't know if this is a fact (it doesn't matter here if it's just fiction) but I saw in the Hannibal series ,that a fungus structure is similar of that of the brain and they are aware when you pass by them :))

Thank you so much @AlexandraVart! Yes, i heard it too somewhere... that fungi and humans are genetically closer to each other than either one of them to plants. I didn't know about their resemblance to brain tissue, but given how mushy and grey mushrooms and brains are, i can totally see it :)))
