Athena, also called "Minerva" in Roman culture, was the goddess of arts and wisdom. It was originally an Etruscan goddess, venerated in Falerii that was an ancient city located in Etruria, located in the center of Italy. When the Romans conquered this city, they seized his statue and took it to Rome. There, the goddess was assimilated to the Greek Athena and took her place as goddess of war.
Also goddess of science, strategy, skill and justice, Athena was one of the twelve gods of Olympus, who were, in addition to her: Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Demeter, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hera, Hermes Poseidon and Zeus.
Mythologically it is known that Athena was the daughter of Zeus (his favorite), born from the forehead of him, armed, after she swallowed her mother: Metis, although the story of her birth has different versions.
(At first, Olympus was only an imaginary place, later the highest mountain in continental Greece was baptized with that name).
All the gods had different roles and often different nicknames that alluded to those roles. Thus, for example, Athena Polias was the protector of Athens; Athena Prómacos was the goddess of war, fighting in the front line with the Greek armies; and Athena Ergane was, the worker, who took care of the artisans.
