Know Your Shoe

Air Jordan 8 is the popular shoe known for being worn by Jordan himself, as he lead the Bulls in the 1993 three-peat championship. With lock down leather straps and a chenille tongue graphic the Jordan 8’s are one of the most unique shoes released by Air Jordan.

The Jordan 8 bugs bunny‘s we are working with today definitely need a little love. We are rescuing these shoes from a poor custom done by the original owners.

That being said, there are a few different materials we will be focusing on. The leather first, then we will turn to the tongue which features a carpet logo. Finally the nubuck heel and midsole. There a few supplies we will need to complete this custom.

Supplies

Acrylic Leather Paint
2-Soft
Paintbrush
Preparer and Deglazer
Cotton balls or Cotton pads
Heat Gun
Shoe trees
Air Brush
2-Thin
Suede Dye

Step By Step Guide Custom Jordan 8

Time needed: 10 hours and 30 minutes.

How to custom Jordan 8

Prep the shoes.

Insert your shoe trees. Use preparer and deglazer to remove the factory finish.

Airbrush the leather.

Mix acrylic leather paint and 2-thin in 4 part paint and 1 part 2-thin. Airbrush the leather parts of the shoe.

Dry and repeat.

Allow each layer of paint to dry and repeat step 2 until you have fully covered the leather pieces.

Dye the nubuck.

The heel of these Jordan 8’s is nubuck, so you need to use suede dye for this part. In thin layers apply the dye with a paintbrush. Allow time to dry and repeat.

Paint the tongue.

Mix your acrylic paint and 2-soft in a 50/50 ratio. Apply in thin layers allowing time to dry between each layer. Heat set after each layer.

Paint the detailed accents.

Using a thin paintbrush go over the detailed accents on the sides of the shoes.

Dry time.

Allow your shoes to dry. We suggest waiting at least 24-48 hours before wearing them.
