Over 20 hours of work, it will never seem done to me. What do you think?
Humble Beginnings
This project started out as sketch and turned into the colorful monstrosity you see before you. I was inspired by the amazing works of Alex Grey and his ability to create very colorful symmetrical pieces that really caught your eye. After i did a very basic sketch i imported it into Autodesk and began the process of adding my basic lines and structure.
Colors
Like Alex Grey i wanted to create something that really popped and appealed to the viewers color spectrum. I used a darker blue and added separate layers of light blue until i had the desired effect down. Afterwards i went in with pencil and added the individual highlights to the piece to add other colors that complimented each other.
Knowing when to call it.
I think this is something that plagues all artists. When to stop working on a piece and move on to something else. As with anyone we all have a process but sometimes when you are in the zone you tend to start moving in a different direction. For me it can happen when the music i am listening too changes to something more fast paced in my playlist, or slows down to something more ambient and chill that makes me sit back and reflect on what i am actually doing with it. After so many hours of working on something you can start to almost hate what you are creating. As the old saying goes "Familiarity Breeds Contempt" i started to feel like this was turning into something i didnt like creating. I knew other people that i had showed my progress too seemed to enjoy it but to me it was never perfect, never finished. So i put my signature on it and called it done.
Sharing your creation.
Sharing is the most terrifying part of the process for me. I never know if people are going to love it or hate it. Personally once i am at the end of the process i am almost desensitized to what emotions or reactions something i created will bring out of the viewer. However, to grow as an artist YOU MUST SHARE IT. Never trick yourself into thinking something you created out of thin air is not good enough. Just the fact that you are creating is an amazing thing. No matter if you are drawing stick figures or realistic landscapes, never sell yourself short that what you are doing isn't something special and something that people will appreciate in some way.
Thanks for reading :) I hope this helps people share their art/content/stories. Have a great day everyone
Nice work! Good post! I wish the images were working better, it would make posts like this really pop!
hey kidsysco, thanks for the feedback and upvote. I figured out how to embed the image so it should show up at the top now. With older posts i just inserted the html link and it worked perfectly but with this i had to embed. Thanks again for checking it out!
