Relative Comparison

Based on the pass percentage of candidates and the percentage of candidates scoring >= 80%, a weighted mean percentage is calculated for both private and government schools. The weightage of the overall pass percentage and the percentage candidates scoring >= 80% are both equally kept as 50%. Based on the weighted mean percentage, the performance of each district for government and private schools were ranked.

Excerpt of calculation

For the state of Kohima-

Private schools: Pass percentage= 83%. Percentage candidates scoring >= 80% = 34.83% (325 out of 933)

Weighted percentage = ((.5 * 83) + (.5 * 34.83)) = 58.92%

Government schools: Pass percentage= 51%. Percentage candidates scoring >= 80% = 14.28% (1 in 7)

Weighted percentage= ((.5 * 51) + (.5*14.28)) = 32.64%

Based on the weighted percentage of each districts for both government and private schools a ranking was drawn out as-

Private schools:

1. Kohima — 58.92%

2. Dimapur — 54.86%

3. Mokokchung — 44.75%

Government schools:

1. Peren — 39.28%

2. Mokokchung — 38.78%

3. Kohima — 32.64%


Comparison of cumulative % for Gov & Private schools

Difference in Cumulative % between Gov & Private schools

The only district where the weighted percentage was in favour of government schools was Peren with a margin of 3.71% over private schools.

The district with the maximum margin between the two was Dimapur with an astounding 43.36%.
