Dennis Oppenheim Sculpture Destroyed in South Korea
'Chamber' is one of the works of of Dennis Oppenheim that was installed in 2010. Haeundae-gu commissioned the selection of works for 2009 Busan Biennale Organizing Committee. In the following year, they installed 'Chamber' near the plaza of the Haeundae beach meeting place. The budget was 800 million KRW. Haeundae Ward Office dismantled and destroyed this work on November 11th ~ 17th.
Dennis Oppenheim's wife, Amy Oppenheim, said she did not hear any news about demolition or disposal at the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee or Haeundae Ward Office. "I did not know that until after my sister gave me a link of UK 'Daily Mail' article link," she said. "I have not heard of the destruction of the permanent exhibition of art."
