'The Resource'

Believe it or not, you are looking at a photo of the most important resource there is. The soil is our greatest treasure. People living in cities, like myself, sometimes forget the importance of where the most of the food grows. Everything you eat, except seafood, grows out of this. Sometimes I wonder if we'll wake up before various industries pollute the last square mile of clean land on Earth. Personally, I would ban every form of pollution. No matter the costs, no matter the profits. If we continue poisoning the soil and food we eat, the price we'll pay in the end will come with a super high-interest rate and we'll all end up broke.

This example of macro photography is quite simple. I played with the depth of field, making the top left side slightly out of focus, while to the right it becomes sharper. The deep shadows I've left dark to create dynamics. The black and gold colour scheme works. The soil is above gold. One cannot eat oil, gold, silver or diamonds. I believe that people forget very simple facts too often and add too much value to things that don't support life.

I very much like the small roots. They stand for life. Did you know that all plants are connected underground? There is a fungus called Mycorrhiza connecting all of them and works toward exchanging all of the needed resources between them so that every plant can prosper and grow in a mutually friendly surrounding. I know this because I've filmed a documentary film about scientists who were researching this wonderful phenomenon years ago.

This example from the plant world, my friends, should be a whitepaper for our own doings.

"Buy land because there will never be more of it," a wise man said. "...and keep it clean," I'd add. Maybe you can think of another example of something with a definite and limited supply? :D

Enjoy! :)

Really cool pic and well written about.
I agree that we atimes forget how the food we eat is made. Our food supply begins in the soil, the source of everything we eat.
Nearly everything we humans eat can be traced back to soil.
I like that you added "and keep it clean" towards the end of the write up. A healthy land =A healthy people. Erosion has done a lot of damage lets not add more damage to it.
Land is really limited and all thanks to it. As a lover of history, Soil holds the key to Earth's history, containing and preserving artifacts of the planet's past, both its natural and its human/cultural antecedents. You can thank soil for those dinosaur fossils every kid loves to see at a natural history museum as well as the relics that tell us how our own human story evolved. Its already obvious that these ancient artifacts are extinct and hence limited, but land really helped to preserve those fossils that we see in museums today.
I agree with @franklin that time is really limited. Money isn’t the most important thing in the world. Your time is.” Most of us come to realize at some point that money is a means, not an end.
Great post @velimir. So many take away lessons. 👍

Well said @georgechuks.
Our time is limited, and the prevailing wisdom is that the more we have of it, the more opportunities there are for us to experience joy and fulfillment.

Nice one there @bridgetoby.
But is that the whole story? Is time really what adds more to life?
I’d argue otherwise. The most important asset in your life isn’t time alone, but attention to the time. The quality of the experiences in your life doesn’t depend on how many hours there are in the day, but in how the hours you have are used.
You can spend 80 years of a life with as much free time as you want and still not get out of it as much as someone who only lived for 40 years but managed to appropriately direct attention to the things that mattered to them.
Although time is indeed limited, with attention, it can be diluted to expand beyond what most other people get out of the same quantity.
Unfortunately, this happens to be harder than it sounds.

Soil is the result of weathering rocks and the remains of organic matter that is destroyed by natural processes.Tanah has a function and a very large role for human life.Tanah utilized by humans as the location of residence and place of escape various activities of human life.Home, buildings and hotels must be built on the ground. It already has economic value because it can be traded or leased. In addition, the land is also used by humans to meet their needs. Various kinds of human food needs land to cultivate it. Agriculture and plantations are human activities in meeting their needs that are in desperate need of land.Tanah provide fertility for the plants that live on it. Soil fertility depends on the type of soil. Soil derived from volcanic material contains various nutrients that can increase soil fertility. The amount and type of nutrients present in the soil should always be balanced. Soil fertility is also done by human behavior in land use. The land that is equally human will become infertile, for example never fertilized and always planted throughout the year without being rested.

Soil pollution occurs when soil contains chemicals that are toxic or otherwise dangerous for humans and other living things. The chemicals may be foreign to the area, or they may be naturally occurring materials that pollute the soil by being present in dangerously high amounts. Soil pollution can have a number of harmful effects on human health. The harmful effects of soil pollution may come from direct contact with polluted soil or from contact with other resources, such as water, that have come in direct contact with the polluted soil.

You're right, we often put too much value on things that are either unnecessary or meaningless, loosing sight of what actually matters. Life, as you mentioned is what matters the most and one essential element for mainting it is soil, along with water. Both, resources that we niether care about sustaining nor restoring.
We really need to wake up and take measures, in whatever capacity we can, to preserve life.

Your art and it's interpretation is always so profound and thought provoking :)

Love,
Saba.

Yes, we do better with that focus, priority on things that matter more. Upvoted.

Earth is clearly one of the main resources for humanity. The earth is what feeds us. It is absolutely important and we must protect it. In my country, a lot of land is used to grow crops, so Belarus is called an agrarian country, and it is associated with potatoes. Potatoes are our national property :) Therefore, our cuisine is rich in potato dishes and I'll be honest - it's very tasty. Therefore @velimir please visit Belarus and taste our local dishes :)

"Buy land because there will never be more of it," a wise man said. "...and keep it clean," I'd add. Maybe you can think of another example of something with a definite and limited supply? :D

I think the most important resource is time. Time can not be returned and we must use it as efficiently as possible. It's sad to see how many people "kill" their time doing something they do not like.
Therefore, it is worth to appreciate the time, and to spend it comfortably.
Goodnight:)

Agreed. WE do more as we use what we have and what we stand on and upon. I'm Oatmeal. Upvoted.

Beautiful!

First off, as per normal, it is a glorious photograph. The beauty beneath us.

I grew up on a farm. My father and his father absolutely believed that you did not own the ground, you were entrusted as stewards of it. Take care of the dirt and it will take care of you.

I'm one of those guys that will stick his finger in the ground to see how it feels and how it smells. Tells me a lot about how it's cared for.

Thanks for a marvelous post.

I agree with you. Even we come from the earth and we will be earth. We are star dust in a larger dimension. If only we were able to be more aware of the wisdom that springs from the earth. We would be going in the right direction ... Humility before ego. @dabird

wow wonderful picture bro

you can't eat oil but on the other hand half of the nitrogen found in human tissue comes from natural gas because make nitrogen fertilizer out of natural gas.
